you guys have me super curious about the Blanton's and i'ma seek some out! one day!

regarding the question above... pretty sure the answer is revealed w/in your Hibiki (and its price, although not too bad). the Japanese are serious about their whisky, among so many other things, as you know. i'm willing to bet that most if not all of that Kentucky holdback goes straight to Japan.

i used to buy high-end Jamaica Blue Mtn beans from a plantation directly back in the early 90's. once the Japanese buyers effectively outbid me I would never see those beans again. and despite years of trying, i haven't.

Went ahead and got all of my whiskey and scotch together. I may have a small problem in the number of Bowman Brothers (small batch), Blantons, Eagle Rare and Angel's Envy (granted I really only have 1 1/3 bottle of the Rye, the other is the port finished). Everything else is single bottles.

I was lucky enough to have the Ardbeg 17 year. It is the best scotch I have ever had. The Corryvreckan is really good and my favorite scotch right now.

Nope. I don't try really hard though. There are people that open up the boxes trying to get the right stopper. I am just happy to get another bottle when I can find them. I do save all the stoppers now though.

Do you guys keep the bottles? It's a pretty unique bottle. So is the Hibiki. I've saved them thinking they could be repurposed but haven't come up with anything yet.

I keep the stopper...pitch the bottle. As unique as it may be...it is what is inside that matters the most. Blantons has a thing where they stamp a small letter on each stopper, and some people try to collect all 8 (at least I think it is 8) unique stoppers. These days, I am just happy when I find a bottle...not worried about what is stamped on the stopper.

Now that I have 4 bottles...I am not as worried about running out. When I only had 1 bottle and it wasn't even half full, I had a few times where I wanted a pour, but would opt for something easier to replace. That is where Bowman Brothers came in. Turns out, around here even Bowman Brothers is getting harder to find, so I stocked up when i could.

I've seen the set of complete stoppers in a little presentation piece selling on-line for a hundred bucks or so. Crazy. I laughed when I read your comment about reaching for the bottle and stopping because of its scarcity. My bottle is now down to the label and I did the exact same thing last night! I picked up a sample bottle of Crown Royal Reserve (or Special Reserve) so I tried that instead. Not very good.

Yeah, stuff like that. I like the hinged JD bottle in the picture below. I wonder how hard it is to cut the glass, smooth it and install the hinge? I think I will ask our resident glass expert, @scottalot

I'm playing around with different methods. Last night was a test, on a bottle of cheap bourbon, to try and remove the label intact. Worked out well. Next I'll try cutting the bottle in two. If all goes well I'll try it on a nicer bottle. I want to make one of those hinged lid things with my Hibiki and/or Blantons bottle.

Got three bottles to try from one of the owners of Mystic Mountain distillery in Larkspur, CO. A moonshine, American whiskey, and a bourbon. The Outlaw Legend bourbon is a small batch (only 241 bottles). Excited to try them out.

Glad I’m not the only one who buys bottles because they look cool... the only empty bottle I have kept is the willet one.

One of the bottles I want is the Jefferson Ocean. Reviews seem underwhelming and the price is high. But I spend alot of time on the ocean so the idea it’s aged at sea is just cool.

    That’s wicked cool.
