I had a 1994 Camry and sold it before a deployment. It had 236k on it when I sold it and it ran like top, sold it to family friend and regret it to this day. Loved that car but knew it would probably be a death sentence letting it sit for a year.

Minivans and CUVs are probably driven until they die because there's less secondary market for them. Trucks and SUVs tend to have a better trade/resale so relatively more are replaced by 15 years.

I'd be curious how many two-owner 15, 20 or 25+ year old Tacomas, 4Runners and Pickups/T100/Truck there are. I bet that number is huge compared to other vehicles.

Does this reflect the vehicles most often purchased by tightwads?

I've had my 4runner for 4 years, nothing is wrong with it but the resale is nuts on it still with only 55k on it. the trade is around 30k and I only owe maybe 10-12k on it. waiting for the next gen to drop to pick up a new one. hoping they up the transmission to 6-8 spd, 12 way power seats, heated steering wheel, led head/fog lights like the tundra, safety sense and move the dam door/window controls from the top of the door sill.

but they don't buy new ones and keep them 15+ years, they buy used and are the 2nd/3rd owner which this survey only tracks initial owner keeping it 15+ yrs.

I found those on a list of neat vehicles but yeah most of those get passed around like the town bicycle nowadays because people won't wheel the nice ones and most folks only hold onto collectors stuff for a little bit before moving on to something else.

Research is showing most people puss out and don’t keep em citing “uncomfortable ride” “not enough room for organic vegetables” “can’t fit enough people”
