I was wondering if the 2018 model has the same transmission issues as the 2016 and 2017 did.

I don't have one, but combing through thread's, I haven't run across anyone complaining about the 2018 transmission. I have seen quite a few say they were concerned about it and they like how it shifts. I would recommend a test drive to make your own mind.

Good questions to be asking, for sure - but I'd think you should be more specific in the issues you're referring to. The main "issue" was some underfilled transmissions. Otherwise the busy shifting behavior was partly addressed by a TSB that should be present in 2018s onward but at the end of the day Toyota didn't view the transmissions as an "issue" as they intentionally designed them with these "characteristics." So I'm not sure there was motivation to fix anything.

That said even my '17 once fluids were topped off and OVtune helped make it more fun to drive = no issues whatsoever!

I honestly don't mind at all how my 2018 shifts. If you just baby it up to speed it does like to get into the highest gear as quickly as possible. However, if you just keep some solid pressure on the gas pedal it shifts where you think it should without issue. I do this on my 12 mile round trip work commute. About 3 miles of 60mph and 3 miles of stoplight to stoplight (one-way). I am averaging 20.5mpg which is 5mpg more than my 1st gen was getting. My 1st gen is lifted, but I am happy with my 2018's mpg.

I have had my 18 TRD Sport for about 2 months and didn't notice a thing until I read the issues with gen3 ATF. It does seem as though mine downshifts from 2nd to 1st rather hard sometimes, but I'm not noticing any slipping, issues going from R to D, etc... Right after buying it I put 1500 miles on it for the holidays. Really enjoying this truck so far.

This. For everything, not just trans behavior.

Too many folks buy with no, or very short, test drives, then complain about stuff that a thorough drive would have revealed.

Trust me, I'm not reproducing. I wouldn't put a child through a world where kids are sucking down clothes detergent for fun.

Mine has some odd behavior at really slow speeds every now and then, but that is about it. Give the pedal steady pressure when accelerating and it will shift how you think it should. At least it does for me!

I have a 16. All the Transmission issues were cleared up by the TSB and perfected with the OVTune. I'm sure the 2018s have the same flash update that came out for the 16s so you should be good to go.
