Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
Yeah, radical concept. Why would anyone want to remove their lift and restore their truck back to stock height. And who knows, maybe someone will offer to talk me out of this. The thing is though, that presently there are stock, low mileage original/OEM suspensions on Craigslist from others who have lifted their Trucks, and I'm not super thrilled about my Truck having a lift that I'm not real familiar with. And my wife needs a boost to get in the truck, which fails to amuse her.

Having done a lot of searching since I don't know what brand lift was put on here--I'm second owner--I believe this to be a Pro Comp lift, likely EXP65205K. Could I be wrong? Sure. That's why I'm here. Looking at this kit, it has the 1" rear lift blocks, it has the Diff drop pucks and the 3 little skid place spacer pucks/bushings. However looking on my truck, I don't see a front spring spacer, but I do see what appears to be Bilstein 5100 series shocks on all 4 corners, and I really don't think my front coils are stock coils. Perhaps I could get some comments here on what you see that either confirms or leads me in another direction.

    IMG_5711.jpg IMG_5712.jpg IMG_5715.jpg IMG_5717.jpg IMG_5716.jpg

First shock photo is rear, second shock photo is Front. Last photo is the Diff Drop puck. It has stock upper and lower control arms. Tell me if you want more photos or any particular different photos or information I can somehow find.

I have read a ton about lifts on the Gen 3 Tacomas, I understand that many folks here are not fans of the Diff drop. I suppose if I remove it, I'd better be prepared to do the ECGS bushing mod to replace my driver's side needle bearing, etc.

Does anyone have some info to share with me here?

You have Beilsein 5100s which is better than a spacer lift.

1st remove that front differential drop and your good to go! Maybe in the future get a add a leaf for the rear leafs to remove that block and it will ride a lot better!

I'm willing to bet that the rear leafs are stock, so removing the block will get you back to stock height on the rear. Just make sure the shocks you have in the rear are "stock length" or you run the risk of bottoming them out and possibly damaging them. Next, check the bottom coil mount on the front Billies. If the snap ring is on the lowest notch (which is considered stock height) then you have aftermarket coils. To go to stock on the front would require a whole coilover. If the coil mount is at any other setting, then you might have stock coils which means you han just get stock shocks and swap the coils you have now over to them.

As far as the diff drop, most people don't like them because they decrease the amount of ground clearance you'd get from the lift in the first place. No rush to remove it IMO, but remove it at the same time that you lower your front suspension.

Okay, got some more pictures. Another one of the rear shock, showing the PN this time. Didn't see it last time as on both sides, it's up against the axle housing.

    IMG_5722.jpg

Photos of the front shock/coil follow. I could not see any way to adjust the lower plate, looks like it is in a permanent position.

    IMG_5720.jpg IMG_5721.jpg

Anyway, hopefully the new photos provide further insight. I decided to measure my rear spring block, it is actually 1 3/8" thick. The Diff Drop pucks are 1".

You most likely have stock coils on the front. The shock body has grooves for a snap ring that sets the lower shock collar at different levels. Looks like your shocks are set to the second from highest setting, the "stock height" groove is at the bottom (red arrow). To adjust you have to compress the coils to take tension off the lower mount, move the snap ring to the setting you want, and release tension on the coils. Obviously this has to be done safely with the coils/shock off the truck.

Thanks for pointing that out to me, and taking time and effort to add in the red arrow. Such advanced ninja photo editing skills I lack totally. I saw those grooves, but somehow, I would not have imagined that those feeble rings would serve to support the weight of a truck. It seems incongruous that something so scant would support such a comparatively monstrous coil spring, and consequently the whole front end of my Truck.

I am also curious as to whether or not having stock upper control arms with this lift is proper. This truck has been aligned since the lift, I wonder if it made it to spec, or just "good enuff."

Yep, goto that lowest setting and remove the rear block and you're back to stock height with better shocks to boot. Win win

The only thing I'd be concerned with is the compression/extension measurements of the rear billies. I'm almost certain that they're different that stock so you might run the risk of bottoming them out even under normal driving conditions. At worst you'll probably be looking at $200 for new rear shocks. At best, they'll be fine and I'm being overcautious.

I think you're ok with the rear's. These are the specs based on that p/n:

    SKU: 24-186728

Okay, I'm sucking in the knowledge like a sponge, learning is taking place right here before your very eyes.

So it appears my truck doesn't have much of a lift at all....1 3/8" in back, and 0.65" in front? Is that right? Wonder why the PO would have gone to that length of effort to boost it so slightly. Of course, if that is so, I can tell my 5' tall 100# wisp Dragon Lady Wife that these trucks just naturally have this stance, and she'll have to endure me boosting her each time she gets in the truck instead of forcing me to shot gun in her Leaf. Or not.

And yes, RECON. What a worthless concept. Out of the 8 Hawaiian Islands (9 if you count Las Vegas) only Oahu requires a State Recon inspection if you have a lifted vehicle. It's painful. I have 3 lifted Jeeps, one 93 YJ and two '04 Rubicons. I have Recon on all of them. It was a nuisance, but I managed to get them all thru on the first pass. Now of course, if I keep this Tacoma lifted, it will need Recon as well, at least by June since that's when the inspection sticker runs out. Since this truck is barely lifted, if I take off the 1 1/4" wheel spacers I found on it, I may be able to pass regular inspection at a friendly inspection station and it'll all be okay. It has some knobby tires on it that are not stock, but they're stock size essentially........maybe no one will notice but the spousal unit.

Going back to stock would be pretty as @kystnTRD mentioned. If you want to keep it lifted, you can always get a set of step bars for the wife. They mount up fairly quick. 6 bolts each side to the bottom of the cab.

Fwiw, It looks to me that your 5100's are on the 4th clip, so 1.6 in of lift. Also if you bring it back to stock height make sure your current tires still fit. 265/70r17 or smaller should fit. If you have 285s, you may also need new (smaller) tires.

Hmmmm. I suppose I need to look up 5100 front Bilsteins and figure out if the slots are numbered from bottom to top or otherwise. (EDIT: bottom to top) More things to figure out I suppose. Maybe an installation guide PDF online somewhere yet for me to discover or to search for. Spousal unit dimensions provided above. I suppose if she used her broom it would not be an issue, though she tends not to want it shown in public.

Current tires on it are LT265/70R17 whereas stockers are 265/65R17 so they're just a wee smidge bigger. Looks like they have planny room.

Hmm. I'm about a total of ~4 inches over stock height (2" lift + 2" taller tires) and pretty much maxed out the height that my 5'2" wife can get into. Definitely won't be able to make it when I go to 35"s in the future. I guess a step stool is in my future

Do you guys just throw it in the back or where do you store it?
