Today I went up to the local store and as I was parking my windshield wipers turned on all by themselves. I checked to see if the switch had jumped into the on position, but it was still on the off position. I tried putting it into intermittent nothing changed. The only thing that changes is when I put it into high. The washer now does not pump. I pulled the switch and tested it according the manual and the continuity check out, but there are other terminals that the manual does not bother to have checked. The switch has a small circuit board on it. A new switch runs north of $180. Has anyone had this problem or is there any way to rule out the switch?

The switch should have a multi pin connector you could unplug and see what happens. They are fairly common on eBay and junk yards

Here is an ewd for your truck. You could try to replace the relay just on a hunch it could be some stupid intermittent issue. Should be cheap enough, if that doesnt work then its gonna be something further down the line.

I would like to test all the other pins if possible to rule out the switch. I know that I could go to ebay or junkyards, but don't want to spend the money needlessly. The manual only suggested five pins out of all of them. I am guessing that if I had instructions on all the others I could rule out the switch as the offender.

Should be in the fuse box under the hood. Have someone flip through the wiper modes maybe, might be able to hear it click if you take the cover off the fuse box.

Check for a short down under the washer fluid resovoir. I had the same problem and bought a wiper switch and made no difference, when it was wet outside my wipers went on automatically and the only way to fix it was I found the short with the wires right down underneath the washer fluid resovior. I hope this helps you.

hmmmmmm so you are saying from somewhere near the 20 amp fuse to where the power splits off you found a short? was it before or after the junction where the power wires split off to power other parts of the assembly? Im trying here but even TIS doesnt have shit on a 2002 for a young tech in training.

I am still thinking you should find and replace the relay if you cannot find any shorts man, cheapest option and relays can fail in many ways.

I found the short in the wires by the washer fluid resovoir. It was a bare wire that the covering was worn off and when it got wet it shorted and for some reason turned the wipers on. I cannot remember the colour of the wire it was a few years ago. If I get a chance I will go under the truck to see what colour wire it was and where it went to. My test was start the truck and with everything dry wipers were good. Sprayed some water in that area and shortly after the wipers would turn on. So I started digging and found the exposed wire. I hope this helps you.

I looked under my truck behind the right bumper turn signal light by the windshield washer tank and saw a white connector that had green corrosion developing at the back side of the connector. I tried to scrap away the corrosion and the wire broke at the back side of the connector. I also found a wire for the pump broken, I tried with little force to bend it but broke off about a half inch of that wire. Does anyone know what they call this connector and where I might buy a new one from other than the stealership? Thank You fenmik! I had a 1995 Tacoma and as far as that went I believe this connector was cut out and I had problems with a cheap cut and crimp problem that plagued me with the pump not working or working as well for the pump. Only after soldering those wires that when it was cold that the pump had enough pressure to shoot the spray way up the windshield beyond the wipers.
