Orange County CAF's: up to no good

Yeah for the scrapped material that a tailgate is ultimately made of there’s going to be those out there making a percentage off of it or as a replacement.

 

I was using 1" 1/4 emt brackets. They worked for the longest time until I started to go to the desert. So the speed combined with the rough terrain stretched them out right away. Before, I was in Oregon so it was slow paced snow/fire road type driving. Yes, four mounting points. So far so good on the muffler clamps. 6 trips to the desert in the last couple months and some fast hard wheeling (at times) and no problems.

 

I had nylock nuts on there, it was the metal that stretched on the clamps themselves. This was 4 or 5 years deep into having an rtt before this issue came about. Still felt like and idiot though. Slowed down the whole day and trip for the other people that I was with. Problem solved now though. Knew I could count on Bob (drainbug) to have the answer.

First trip out with mine and the thing was coming loose... not so much the mounts to the bars as it was the floor mounts to the tent rails... two of them came loose, One completely unscrewed and the nut was slushing around inside the rail. Noticed it the first night while setting up camp and the thing shifted... Easy enogh to throw a ratchet strap over and Wheel the next day and then tighten it back down back at camp. After getting Home I’ve added some loctite to that hardware...I’m definitely going to drill a couple extra holes through the floor and rails and adding additional mounting points to the set up! Or just maintain a couple of straps over the whole the thing whilst in the dirt. I knew I’d put the thing through the ringer the way that we Wheel and there would be some mods forthcoming!

 

I realise this is a stupid question, but why are tail gates so sought after??? WTF???

 

Easy to remove expensive to replace

 

Some body shops buy used parts.

 

No they were double sided. I don't think single sided would work for speed bumps and pot holes.

 

Do yourself a favor and do the hose-clamp mod as well. Under the "Mods & Tutorials" tab there's a prevent tailgate theft mod.

Could of sworn ferds have locking tail gates.

 

I never had that concern or even thought about it prior to just recently when a buddy of mine mentioned it and asked if my tail gate locked on my previous single cab Chevy. Glad my Taco has a lock on it but where there's a will, there's a way for these fkrs.

 

Once my truck wa a broken Into I bought a pop n lock .. i like it

 

Please, any one steal my tailgate too. I'd like a new one as well. bent mine when i dropped my 35" Spare on it from the bed rack.

 

Yep and it was locked.Whomever still got it.

 

ordering a locking tailgate handle now.. lol i get so paranoid about people stealing the shit in my bed. At least i have the bed rack and topper to deter people but that damn tailgate.... it also has lots of small dents just above the handle from me slamming it shut hahahaha fml
