Small glove box problem

Every time I open the glove box in my '06, the small hydraulic damper on the right side of the box pops off...and I keep replacing it. It's getting to the point if I keep this up the plastic prong on the side of the dash opening to which it attaches will eventually break off. Any ideas how to keep this damper in place?I've tried a few different fix-its but nothing seems to work. I may just end up removing it and forget about the whole damper thing. Not a huge problem but
quite annoying.

So, pull it out of there and throw it in the trash. It's basically a useless thing anyway, that simply gets in the way when you pull the box out to check your cabin air filter.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Screw it!!!

Seriously, you slide it onto the dash-side prongs and run a screw in between the prongs. Has worked for 5 years now for me.

I just came back in from messing with the dampener that keeps popping off. I think I'll try the screw and washer fix on the dash side since that's where the prongs are bent to allow the dampener to pop off. Kinda cheap by Toyota to use cheap molded plastic to hold the dampener on.

Very simple fix that was not taught to me in brain surgeon school!!!!

 

I've taken mine out a few times and never had a problem getting it back in. I think it's nice to have. Not sure what the big deal is.

 

I did this last year and mine hasn't come off since.

 

I might try one of those fixes... I gave up on mine a while back. I don't use the glove box much, and it doesn't offend me to let it just fall open. Fixing it might be a fun mini-project, though.

 

It's not a problem putting it back on. And I never took mine off at that end on purpose. What the rest of us experience is that the tab that holds it onto the dash portion doesn't stay spread apart. While we disconnect it from the glove box, sometimes it just falls off at the other end where it's supposed to be attached to the dash. So you slide the damper back on at that end, and it just falls back off again. If you take it into the dealership as a warranty item, they'll replace the whole dash (I know of one person that went this route instead of just fixing it himself), rather than just installing a screw to keep the tabs spread apart.
