Not entirely sure what you mean? The sides will be held up, most likely on friction struts that are multi-position. Wont be any interference with an awning or road shower above it.

We are manufacturing our own bitchin t nuts. Billet machined and anodized. Utilizes the same twist lock design as what's been shown previously in the thread.

Yeah, we are going to beat production timelines by a good bit. Obviously we have quite a cue to catch up on, but we will likely begin production consumer units end of march/beginning of april.

Here is a link to some content on our site. Its a hidden little section accessed by a button on the footer. Will probably integrate it into the site a bit better in the near future, but I did a refresh on the whole thing yesterday and am realizing I probably need to lay out a whole new architecture soon.

    Thanks for that!

Ah, I see what you mean.

Homeboy in the photo is actually just holding it open, as the prototype doesn't have struts mounted yet (please dont tell ).

We will have provisions for the strut to be held open without exceeding the height of the awning, but it will also have to open a bit over that to not impede side access for loading.

This is likely not the solution, but it would be a solution. Just an example of something that might work. http://www.camloc.com/products/stop-stay/

Custom machined billet brackets of course! More race car parts at affordable prices made by robotic slave labor but supervised and designed by top tier engineers and programmers in bucolic bozeman montana.

BTW, roads in Baja looking a little rough these days...

When will the production tent set up be finalized? Just curious to see final window size, fabric color, and window awning off the back.

In same cases a drainage dip (vado) is better than a culvert, since when the culvert gets clogged, or cracks and leaks, this ^^ happens.

Since the side panels are bigger than pretty much any windoor, could you lower the hinge axis to at or even a tad below the bottom of the upper from tube, thus making more room for awning attachment and still allow tilting the side panels up a bit above horizontal? This way the side panels would be either fully open or closed, with no partial position. On the other hand, maybe a device to hold the panel fixed at any opening would be good for the previously discussed ventilation ...

We've got this one sorted. Stay tuned.

In the near future, but I assure you that the tacomaworld folks will get the news first. We have a few design considerations after this baja trip, and Wiley will be back in country on the 17th.

This is exactly what I was thinking regarding the windows. I am pretty sure I would prefer to sleep with my head toward the taller end of the tent.

The tent pattern is pretty much finalized. A few details to add like the stand offs to let the door flap act as an awning and the actual color choices which will either be gray or dandelion yellow.

The window size and placement was intentional for ventilation. Too much mesh near the big end and you get hot stagnant air. And even though the side windows look small from the outside, they afford a pretty good view. And while it doesn’t wrap around, the giant window at the end could still be described as panoramic. With the big end and the side windows open even the tiniest hint of a breeze really gets the air moving through the tent.

Plus the extra mesh and zippers and labor adds to the cost and to the noise in the wind. Having Just weathered a couple days of coastal Baja storm, I can say this thing is nice and quiet compared to most tents.

Regarding the side panel opening and awnings, the side panel only needs to open a small amount beyond horizontal. I’m 6’4” tall and can stand under the side panel when it’s horizontal. Our awning brackets will mount to the lower portion of the tent frame and position the awning just a bit above to allow clearance. Since the awni gmkints above the hinge anyway, if you’re able to stand under the awning then you can stand under the panel. So even if you have your awning angled down, just open the side panel to match that angle, if that makes sense.

wileydavis do you guys have more information about how the insulation tent liner, lower panel insulation and heater will be designed?

So my family and I went to the Denver Intl. Sportsman's expo, it was pretty cool and I was surprised to see a lot of the camper/tent manufacturers there, especially some of the more obscure ones that I have been watching on YouTube...like a recent addition from South Africa etc....
Kind of a bummer that you guys couldn't be there to showcase your product this year, but hopefully next year.
But, I have to say, even after looking at all these cool "overlanding" set ups...I am still really excited for, and think even more now, that your GFC is the right one for us.

*note* trying not to list all the other manufacturers out of respect for you guys, but I'm kind of mixed about it because I think it says a lot for you guys that you can compete with all them. feel free to edit this or whatever

Really appreciate the encouragement dude! I don't mind talking about other brands in this thread, probably just helps with SEO anyhow.

I personally think we are hitting a balance of pricepoint, functionality and quality that is far above and beyond any other current offerings. I don't doubt that there will be other brands to choose from in the future as well, but we are confident in our abilities to continue to innovate and develop new ways to improve our product. I have the utmost confidence in our team, and our design and manufacturing skills.

Nothing finalized at this time, want to do some prototyping and testing first. You can trust that we are designing on it currently though, and that TW will be the first to learn about it.

I am literally spending this afternoon with my wife at the coffeeshop to develop the launch campaign for the 'XL' version this week. It will support 2nd and 3rd gen tundra, select ram vehicles, and we will probably switch f-150 over to it as well.

It will have a ~queen size bed instead of a full, and the open floor will be slightly larger due to the increased width. Retail for that will be $5750, and we will begin shipping those units in the summer, probably july.

Also, I am adding first gen (00-06) tundra to our supported vehicles list for our current preorder. If anyone wants to get in line a little earlier than the everyone else, email me at graeme(at)gfcengineering.com

Looking at all the pictures I can't see how the pop up latches when closed? Has it been discussed in here and I'm missing it?

Its a sneaky little cool guy part. Internal pinned connection inside of that orange tube on the back of the camper. Two thumb detents to to unload the spring-loaded pin on either side of the camper, automatically sets when closed.

And if I can be this guy for a second...

Should we expect the same pricing after preorders end or will they increase after preorder? A lot of large life decisions coming this year (tiny house living...) and I'm trying to see how I can fit this in and when. Lol.

Shipping won't be included in the price after the pre-order. So it will definitely save a few hundred bucks if ordered now. We also might need to add a special bonus bit for those who participated in the pre-order, not sure what its gonna be yet.

We are also about to do a big media and advertising push now that we have our production plan all sorted, and I anticipate we will be seeing a lot of orders soon. Adding some more vehicles to the line-up (just added first gen tundra today) and coming out with an RTT and XL version in the not too distant future.

So beyond stoked to start seeing these things in the wild. Gonna be awesome.

This page needs a picture...Tent is mega camouflage in those rocks.
