So the manufacturer reccomended i go try some quality 223 ammo through the AR even though the headspacing is off. He thinks the issue was that i was shooting aguila 556 62gr and it was causing the problems.

When i first got the rifle i did run about 150 rounds of federal 223 62gr through it and it ran flawlessly.

Yep, he didn't seem to believe me. Said they headspace every rifle before shipping it.

See the ar15 bs thread for a more detailed post.

What did you use to mount it? I have an M&P15 with the same handguard and was looking to get a bipod for it. Is is one of those Picatinny rail pieces?

Agreed! Though I don't have a problem with their wheel guns as a throw in hunting backpack or tackle box for snakes and whatnot.

I'm so impatient, I found a barrel I want (Ballistic Advantage 556) that comes with a VG6 Precision Epsilon and free shipping (from Tom's Tactical) for $175 and it'll arrive in ~a week but I'm considering ordering it from Primary Arms where I will get just the barrel for $152 + $13 shipping.... But I will get it Monday.

Never. But given those two choices, I’d personally prefer to order from the smaller company. (Assuming Tom’s is the smaller company). Keeps places like that afloat and it’s a better deal although you’d have to wait a bit longer.

If you can get the barrel and epsilon for $10 more than just the barrel, be patient. ~$60 muzzle device for $10.

Yeah I ordered from Toms Tactical. Hoping it doesn't take the full 5 business days to ship like it says it might on their website. If it does then oh well, awesome deal.

It could get a little dicey. There seems to be some conflicting verbiage in 27 CFR 479.11:

Firearm. (a) A shotgun having a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length; (b) a weapon made from a shotgunif such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length; (c) a rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length; (d) a weapon made from a rifle if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length; (e) any other weapon, as defined in this subpart; (f) a machine gun; (g) a muffler or a silencer for any firearm whether or not such firearm is included within this definition; and (h) adestructive device. The term shall not include an antique firearm or any device (other than a machine gun or destructive device) which, although designed as a weapon, the Director finds by reason of the date of its manufacture, value, design, and other characteristics is primarily a collector's item and is not likely to be used as a weapon. For purposes of this definition, the length of the barrel having an integral chamber(s) on a shotgun or rifle shall be determined by measuring the distance between the muzzle and the face of the bolt, breech, or breech block when closed and when the shotgun or rifle is cocked. The overall length of a weapon made from a shotgun or rifle is the distance between the extreme ends of the weapon measured along a line parallel to the center line of the bore.

It could be read that, similar to the Remington TAC-14 and Mossberg Shockwave, if the firearm was never built as a long arm, the barrel length is irrelevant as long as the OAL is 26" or greater. The following definition could supersede that, however:

Rifle. A weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed cartridge to fire only a single projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger, and shall include any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire a fixed cartridge.
