    Hey everyone. Thanks for reading.

Ive got the notorious 6 speed manual. And of course, I have the chirping sound coming from the throw-out bearing, at only 105k miles!! :( Ive done all my research and I know thats the problem. But my question is related to the parts that fix it....

URD makes a kit with a flywheel, clutch, bolts, rear main seal, and throwout bearing kit. I plan on purchasing this when ive got the funds. On the kit you can select your options for which parts you want for what. I plan on doing it all while ive got the tranny out anyway . The hydro bearing is the most expensive selection on the bearing kit.

Im wondering if anyone has had experience with this hydro kit vs just the regular sleeve kit? URD basically says you have to get the hydro kit to fix the real problem... I only want to do this once and i want that damn chirping sound gone. But if i can save 200 or 300 on the kit by buying just the sleeve kit vs the hydro kit and still completely fix the problem, obviously i would want to do that.

Anyone with experience with these two kits, especially anyone with installation experience on the hydro kit, your 00.02$ would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks for reading.

Have you fixed yours yet even with just the sleeve kit? The thing that has me wondering is that the hydro kit, in the desciption, says you actually have to cut off your old pilot shaft. I thought that seemed a little strange. What would you bolt the new one to?? Lol

My syncros and clutch were going so I ordered a wrecking yard tranny with 18k miles on it out of a 2014. Left the throw out bearing as is.

As far as the hydro, as far as I understand it replaces the slave cylinder as well. It would likely fasten to the bell housing in a face mount situation but not certain what holes it picks up or if you have to drill and tap?

So wait, did your tranny come with the bearing then? And clutch? Because ive contemplated doing this and just starting fresh with just the sleeve kit and new tranny. The kit on URD to rebuild everything comes out to 1300.00... Feel like i could go your route for almost the same price. How many miles before your syncros took a shit? :(

My syncros in 3rd starting going around 120k. I could've limped them out indefinitely but then my clutch master cylinder went and probably cost me my clutch so I just went with a new one considering mine was 05, but surprisingly never had the TO squeak.

I tried to get the wrecking yard to include the clutch but they didn't want to. I ordered a new LCE clutch and it came with OEM TO bearing, I also got a new slave cyl and flywheel while things were out. Cost me about $2200 in parts but I plan on replacing my syncros in my 05 and selling the transmission to recoup a couple hundred.

Well thanks for the info. Still not sure which route i want to take. Im really starting to think these 6 speed manuals are just garbage. I almost wanna swap in a freakin automatic. I searched on here for that too but couldn't find anyone who did it. Ugh...

I just found out about the updated URD hydro bearing kit today. I already installed the previous URD sleeve kit about 20k ago and the squeak just returned. Would like to find out if anyone with a Tacoma or FJ tried this. So far it appears there is not a real fix for the 6spd TOB issues. Neither URD sleeve kit or TSB parts seem to be permanents from my research. This hydro one seems quite drastic though.

    Good afternoon everyone,

I HAVE JUST PURCHASED THE URD FIX-U HYDRO-BEARING CONVERSION KIT ALONG WITH THE TORQUE-U FLYWHEEL AND STAGE 2 URD CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I'm nervous as fuck. Hopefully this job goes smoothly. I will do my best to post pictures and all the steps I took during this project. From what I've researched, there hasn't been a very good documentation of all this yet. So, I'll do my best to do before, during, and after updates on how everything went. If any of you are reading this and have already installed this setup, feel free to chime in with any advice you may have before I start. I should have parts here in about a week.

Cross your fingers everyone. I hope this turns out well. It damn-well better for 1400$ shipped....

I've been looking into the Fix-U kit myself, but I really don't want to stray away from the stock clutch assembly as it serves my needs. My TOB has been squealing non-stop for the last 4k miles, and chirped for 8k before that. I had the TSB parts installed about 20-25k ago with a new clutch assembly, but obviously they've failed me.

I wish you all the luck. I've only seen one case of someone installing it on here, and the last time he updated us, he was struggling to get the hydraulic bearing bled. Hopefully it goes well for you though!

Did you order straight from URD? They're listing the Fix-U kit out of stock.

I've had the money for a couple of weeks and have been emailing and calling everyday during that time waiting for one to pop back on the shelf. Finally I called, and they had one left after filling all the back orders. This seems to be the most drastic step out there for this fix. There are countless threads and arguments on here of what the issue is. Regardless, it seems that all other "fixes" are just hit and miss. Mine has been squeeking for 30k miles now.... I have a feeling everything in there is gonna be pretty tore up. Regardless, I dont wanna waste my time with all these tiny little "fixes" just to have it come back. If this doesnt work.... Well then I might as well drive my truck off of a cliff because I cannot stand this squeaking any god damn longer!!

I don't blame you there. I'm sure the quill of my transmission is pretty well trashed.

If its worth anything, I did the sleeve kit for my quill and it has served me well for almost 30k now which is about the mileage my original chirp appeared so we will see how well it continues to do. If the sleeve starts to fail me I will look into this hydro fix. I still think the sleeve is a good option for a cheaper price assuming you apply proper lube to the part when you do the install.

I did consider this route. However, I am only pulling my tranny ONCE!! Haha. I would rather spend the extra 200 - 300 on the hydro now and not have to pull it again. If everything goes well, I suspect this setup should outlive the truck. At least that's the idea. Thanks for all the encouragement guys. I'm getting a lot more responses than I thought I would. I'm probably not very good at doing a write up, but if all of you are that interested, I will do my best to document and take pictures of everything. Maybe some video's as well.

There are two things I'm concerned about on this job. Getting the tranny out and in and bleeding the hydraulic lines. I've heard getting to the top bolts on the bell housing are a PITA. Anyone got any advice on at least pulling the tranny? Am I getting too worked up about getting that thing out? Or is it gonna be as hard as I think?

Bleeding the hydralics lines isn't that bad, just flushed mine while doing my stainless steel brake lines that other day. From what I've heard, the top bolts are the worst!!!

How do you like your short throw shifter? Is it the URD short throw shifter??? almost purchased that with my order, but I'm already strapped for cash so... maybe next time haha.

I have the TRD short throw, love it!! It was one when I bought it, but having driven some friends tacomas with the urd and stock, I cannot ever go back to a regular shifter. Had @Coupe redo in the internal rubber bits when I bought it, was a bit loose, and now from being a little trans noise being transmitted, i love it. Now, if I could just smooth out the 6sp trans a little more, but thats another thread!!!
