You say you don't want it to be a political bashing thread yet you've entirely set the stage for just that and even threw in a bash yourself when you stated, "Some people just don't get it though."

How is this not a political thread?

If the federal government has failed on immigration then it is up the local states to solve their own problems with their own state laws. It makes perfect sense to me.

Not really "owned.." I didn't come out saying who doesn't get it. I didn't bash the President. Or our former Governor.

Anytime a thread is posted with topics of legalizing something or passing a bill their will always be opinions posted.

So, By political bashing, I meant, don't start arguing about Dems or Repubs or what you think of the President of the current Governor.

I didn't say this isn't a political thread. I said lets not make it into a political BASHING thread. There is a difference.

Which really has an impact on AZ. Which is why I posted it in the regional forums, under the State that I live in.

I understand what your trying to do, but it's splitting hairs. Political threads aren't allowed on TW. Because the thread deals with the President and legislation it is political. My guess is, mods will allow it, but will watch it closely, at least that's what I would do.

^^^ agreed Crom. But this isn't anymore political than discussing Arizonas new CCW law, or the legalization of Marijuana. I am only updating the AZ region with a link to a news site with an article regarding current events in this State.

I know the forum rules. I am walking a thin line, not to stir the pot. But to share info on what is going on.

How do you guys know who I referred to when I said "some people don't get it"? I could have been talking about anyone.

Fair enough. So... Let's discuss it then. :)

    Did you see my comment?

I completely agree. I was a little disappointed the Fed Gov had nothing to say about Robert Krentz being murdered on his ranch, but once a step towards a solution of some sort was brought up, they jump all over it pretty much saying we don't know what is best for us, the citizens of this State. Still not bashing anyone. Disappointed is all..

I don't understand people who say that the law will lead to racial profiling. The solution to that problem is that when people are pulled over by cops, everyone must show proof of citizenship. If the law is universally applied to everyone then there should be no problems right?

    Hardwire radar detector. Tube steps.
I am for immigration reform, but I'm against this becuase of the possiblity of legitimite US residents being unjustly detained/questioned to their country of birth/citizenship and the necessity of real US residents having to carry proof of residency. It is not a US law that I must carry ID at all times, but this law could be in the realm of unreasonable search and seizure.

This bill is a good thing I have worked with local LEA and they are handcuffed in many instances not being able to arrest or detain individuals that have commited crimes only because they have an illegal status. Some cities like Mesa and Chandler do not even allow their officers to ascertain the individuals legal status.

It doesnt require that you carry an ID as a US citizen at all. It requires an officer to determine whether or not an individual who commited a crime is a legal resident. It is not about cops playing border patrol agent at all.

I am half-Japanese, but I am often mistaken as a person who's Hispanic. I know you don't need to carry your ID with you at all times. But when you're driving your truck I am assuming you have your Drivers License with you right?

A News Channel was interviewing people from Sonora at the Tucson Mall. It was about split between the Mexican Citizens who were for and who were against it. One guy flat out said "I don't see a problem with having to provide my papers if its ever brought up by the Police. Americans are required to have their papers when coming down to Mexico. No problemo."

I agree with you. It seems crazy to me to think its such a big deal verifying the legal status of someone they are dealing with.

Good point! But where does it stop, does it apply to traffic stops or felony crimes too?

I go through U.S. Customs and Border Patrol checkpoints many times a month all within the borders of California, all they do is ask me my country of citizenship. I guess I'd be willing to show papers, but what if I forgot them? Does that make me a criminal then?
