    So..my 1st born turned 16 the other day. Yeah I know...I'm an old guy with young kids. I was tricked...thought I was in the other hole.

    But anyway. I certainly don't want her driving my rig and the wife isn't thrilled at the prospects of her driving her new RAV either.

    Thinking about buying a cheap Corolla, Yaris, xA, xB....something along those lines as a 3rd car for the whole family that she can also learn to drive in.

    If over the next year or so she proves to be responsible as a driver I'll give it to her on 17th birthday. She will have a part time job soon and I will make her pay a portion of the insurance.

    Thoughts?

    I'll market it as 3rd vehicle for the whole family...and it will be. But she can also use it to learn to drive (she just has her leaner's permit) and drive some once she has her actual license.

    Am I making it too easy for her by giving it to her as her car a year from now?

    I was fortunate that mom bought me my first vehicle as well, Mazda B4000, because it was after my parent's divorce. I was very limited on my driving until I was 17 as well.
    I think it's a pretty good idea.
