That person is wrong. Somewhere in this thread are the lists of the parts kits Toyota of America created so dealers wouldn’t be ordering one part at a time, as they broke it. Go to the class action site and read the actual documents on the final order. Somewhere it says “blah blah, any and all related parts, blah blah blah”. You’ll have to do some leg work and read a lot. Or don’t and pay them. It’s your money.

I spoke to 3 people, one at Toyota Canada, one at Toyota USA and one at Toyota National in the claims department. They all told me the same thing, that the recall is only for the frame. The dealership also told me that. Are you sure that previous post isnt for the original recall? The recall was 'renewed' under an 'extended warranty' policy a few months ago. Its possible the newly renewed recall is different and has different policies towards that. The broken tie-rod and steering shaft end were charged to me at dealer cost, so $78 to replace both of them. The seized brake line was not due to rust from the frame and thus they charged me full price to replace + labor, which I said no to.

So far my only expenses are this $78 cost for the tie rod end and steering shaft end. Im not sure who else I can try to speak to after speaking to 3 different people at Toyota corporate, theyre gonna think im crazy if I keep questioning them after receiving multiple answers all saying the same thing

What exactly did you get replaced? Did you have to pay for any of it?

Check back posts, I've listed it all. Mine was bought off lease from Toyota Canada so what was done in house before I got it I'm just coming to realize.

Thank you!! I just emailed Toyota and referenced that line as well as explained my situation. Clearly nobody on the phone knows what theyre talking about. Hopefully by reading the email and seeing it right in front of their face they will understand.

I would call the attorney’s on the case. They made like $3.3 million on the case. I would hope they would help.

So update. Got the truck back this afternoon. I have no idea what the service manager was talking about when he said I was not getting any new parts other than the frame. I looked under the truck and have brand new LCAs, ABS lines, brake lines, etc.. I was still charged to replace the tie rods and steering shaft end, and they didnt fix the E-Brake cable but I did get a bunch of new stuff.

    Theres a problem though.

I didnt have my rear shocks anymore, so I told them to leave the 4" lift blocks and extended rear shocks in the back and let the truck sit funny. That way I could order the proper bilstein 5100s for the rear and do the rear shocks and lift block removal myself over the weekend. Its caused a TON of issues with the truck though, I dont know if its related or not but the truck is almost un-drive-able right now.

    1. It has little to no braking power, I have to put my foot through the floor to stop it properly
    2. The steering feels extremely weird, like theres no resistance in the wheel at all. If I turn too much to one side the whole wheel sort of flops into lock.
    3. Going over potholes/making turns causes the whole truck to sway back and forth and bit and generally feels sketchy
    4. I can hear the tires skipping/losing traction in the back when taking turns

I have shocks ordered off Amazon via priority mail and will have them delivered tomorrow. Ill be installing them IMMEDIATELY because as of right now, my truck is extremely un-safe to drive. The dealer claimed they could not do an alignment after doing the frame cause of the lifted rear, and to come back after ive done the rear shock swap for a free alignment.

Could all of these issues be caused by no alignment + huge driveshaft angle + massive lift in the rear? Im mostly sketched out about the brakes, it was really bad trying to drive home like that.

2,3,4 yes could be your combo of shitty alignment, lifted rear, etc

Braking shouldn’t be different, but not horrible

Glad you're finally getting some recourse, 'bout time! Can't comment on #2, 3 & 4 right now 'cause the suspensions not together yet but get them to bleed the brakes. Sounds like that's the problem with #1. Please keep us posted.

Braking took me by surprise, I noticed it in the dealer parking lot but didnt get a good sense of how bad it was until I was down the road already. Service advisor didnt answer the phone (obviously, they are done with me now)

Will definitely keep you updated here. Hoping to get the lift blocks out and new shocks in tomorrow. Supposed to be -15 Celsius here, going to be a fun day playing driveway mechanic.

Happy to see the new parts though, they did a good job on the frame from what I can tell. They gave me my old LCAs and stuff back so I could see right away what was replaced.

So I spent the morning in the freezing rain changing out my blocks and extended rear shocks on my truck for a brand new set of 5100s that showed up this morning. I torqued everything down and drove the truck around the side streets to see if anything changed on the handling front.

Truck still handles like complete shit, but there was definitely an improvement from before. I can visually see my front left tire is angled inwards quite a bit, so the remaining shitty handling could just be from a terrible alignment. I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow at 8am to have it aligned.

Brakes are still TERRIBLE, there was zero improvement and my brake pedal still feels like mush. And now, when I brake and come to a complete stop, I hear a loud grinding/screeching noise coming from the rear brake drums. Its kinda freaking me out and I dont even know if I can drive my truck to the dealer like this.

    What a terrible situation

Here is a before and after of removing the rear suspension and making it stock again

Get it back to the dealer and make them make it right. Before you leave, get them to go on a test drive with you. I can’t believe they let you leave with the truck like that. They are totally liable. Obviously they didn’t test drive it before they gave it back to you. That is totally your responsible.

I am also hoping to do a lift (toy tech BK0510) should I hold off until it is undercoated (If the guru's say do the undercoating) Thanks guys!!!!!
Without Tacoma World I would not have known about the frame issues!!!!

So along with the brakes not working at all since they did the frame, now the truck will not start. The starter may be fried as it clicks ONCE when I try to start the engine. Had to get the truck towed to the dealer this morning because it has no breaks, handles extremely poorly and wont start now. I made up a laundry list of complaints and stuff they did wrong. Truck is back at the dealer today and they said they wont be able to work on it until monday. So itll sit there until they get a chance to fix it. Service advisor claimed that they may end up charging me for the starter cause "they didnt touch it" during the swap.

Also, it appears they stripped one of my bed bolts while taking it off, and then took a grinder to the bolt in order to remove it. Then when they assembled the truck again they put the old bolt back instead of replacing it with a new one..

I used my CAA so it was technically free (I get 3-4 tows a year or something like that). Dealership is only 10 mins from my house anyways. Im probably not gonna say anything otherwise, if I paid for it out of pocket then I would definitely ask that they pay for me.
