I found mold and moisture in my canopy. help/suggestions

Not sure if this helps but my shell leaks too. I was pretty sure it is from the fold down window in the front. I asked a snug top dealer about it, not the one I bought it from. And they told me snugtop wouldn’t warranty it they would tell me to buy a suv. Now that I read this thread I went and looked and in the driverside upper corner of my bed there is a gap where a glob of silicone used to be and it is now gone.

 

That is heartbreaking

 

LOL buy an SUV thats a good one. I have a cheap generic 400$ canopy that I have had for almost 20 years...its on and off my chevy multiple times a year...guess what...no leaks! Its not even on the truck its designed for!

I took our snugtop back yesterday for the 2nd time due to leaks from the roof rack rails, side windows and under the sides. They are sending it back to snugtop to be replaced. 2 months with no canopy that I paid for with no compensation. And to top it off they chipped my paint and tried to blame it on the canopy shifting on truck while I had it. (which it most certainly did not) Needless to say I was freaking pissed. I may just tell them to shove this canopy right up their asses. I have wasted just about enough of my life on this thing.

 

Spray everything with vinegar. That’ll kill the mold, and prevent future mold until you can figure out what to do with the leaks.

Just spray and soak everything, repeat 2-3 times. The smell of the vinegar will go away, and it’ll have lasting affects on preventing future mold.

 

I would just take it back. Fuck huffing chemicals/vinegar or mold/mildew spores. That carpet is junk. We camp in our truck...I would not want to sleep next to that now or later.

 

I watched a Youtube video about a man that went home with his wet rooftop tent and left it in his garage for a month without air drying it. The mold and mildew build up was impossible scrub up no matter how much elbow grease he used. Because the smell was so bad I think he trashed it.

 

That one I couldn’t tell you without seeing it myself. There isn’t any water getting in around the windows? Are there any seems around the back edge in the fiberglass where they’re might be a small gap on the actual cap?

 

What did you say to them? We’re you able to keep your cool? Did they put up any fight?

What do you mean take it back? Ive had it for almost a year.

Dont get me wrong, I couldn't agree with you anymore. It makes me angry. We also camp out of ours and I plan on spending every day off this spring/summer in this truck.

 

How long is the manufacturers warranty?

 

Lifetime warranty on the structure, one year warranty on all the little electrical stuff

 

You have a one year warranty on windows, seals, electrical, basicaly everything. I got my snug top in april. It barely rains here so it took me some time to figure out it leaked. I just took it back for 2nd time and they are sending it back to snugtop to have it completely re-made. Or, I may just get my money back and try an ARE or LEER as I am sick of dealing with this POS they all have the same issues and all the dealers pretty much suck imho. Its a messed up business model.

 

I'd take that thing back in a heartbeat. It's their problem, and it's covered under warranty.

I checked my canopy earlier today and found mold/mildew on my headliner as well. I searched Google and it led me to this thread. I think it happened overnight because I did not notice it the day before when I was in central Washington. I also have a Leer 100XR which I bought from canopy world in Des moines two years ago.

I am going to remove everything from the bed and clean it all out because I sleep in there when camping.

 

Thats horrible I'm sorry! That CLR mold stuff worked great, another member (@Tcomaboy ) suggested vinegar

 

It seems to have appeared overnight and was just clinging to the carpet so it was easy to wipe off after spraying on the Clorox all purpose cleaner with bleach. I will be putting a rechargable moisture absorber in there along with a damp rid. Hopefully I can sleep in it this spring.

 

Since I started parking the opposite direction, ( @TXTaco13 suggestion) I have had zero moisture. Ive still got the Damp Rid back there for humidity (@ksj suggestion). I don't see any more water running down from the windows/headliner!

Ive still got the bed rug out. I think it was trapping any moisture in the bed by not allowing it to drain properly.

Canopy dealer just emailed me and said he will ship it back to the factory to replace the passenger window and the headliner

I'm going to be without it for 4-6 weeks but I don't mind because I really hope this solves my issues and gives me peace of mind that the headliner doesn't have mold/mildew.

 

Good stuff. I just had the dealer install new seal. If the mildew comes back I'll try to get the carpet replaced as well and maybe get a windoor installed.
