    Smaller, actually. 242 cubic inches.

Although if I remember correctly, a popular mod for the 258 was to drop a 4.0 head onto it, for the same reason. Bigger valves.

I had a buddy in high school whose shop project was building a 280 six. He used a 4.0 block, head, and pistons with the crank and rods from the 258. It was a neat project, but he put it in a lifted CJ and rolled it shortly after we graduated. Ruined the jeep and never pulled the motor before he sold it for scrap.

I’ll speak with me bro later on today to see what his set up actually was. I do remember the 4.0 head and him talking about it.

    A 280 or 300 wouldn’t have a problem towing large loads.

Wow. I feel bad. Just put 25,000 miles on my 17' in its first year. Out exploring and adventuring in back roads many weekends out of the month.

There's a member here who has 120,000+ miles on his 2016 TRD Off road 4x4. I expect this engine to push 300k+.

My buddy had a long commute for a while so he got a Civic for the better mpg. Hated every second in the car and decided that life was too short and got rid of it.

My brother had a Toy pu (1990) with the 22RE engine. After 340k on it he got a deal on a Tundra, so he drove the little truck to Guatemala and gave it to a nunnery. They liked the gift, except that not one of the nuns could drive a stick! Had to teach a little gas/clutch action to get them rolling.

I had a 1988 pu and had to give it away after 25 years because the windscreen bezel rotted out 2/3 of the way around, and it rains too much here in Seattle to deal with a leaky window. So I gave it to my wife's nephew, who promptly sold the thing for $1800!

Don’t feel too bad. My trails are 1/4 mile away, I’m out often, and I’ve done a Smokey mountain “overland” (camp through) plus a few other renegade camp outs. This year I’ll visit Texas and back home to see the pacific before heading east again.

    Guess we're all different.:notsure:
My Wife and I drove a 98 civic 240ish k 15+years few cv boots.. flip out tv playstation and 18" kicker sb. Absolute joy to drive...my daughter nicknamed it the tank due to never breaking down.. hell I use to run 1st untill Rev limiter shut it off then slam 2nd ect... not an easy life, but car still runs today!..&now I got tacoma and wife got another civic this time a 06 coupe... we don't beat it like we did as kids but her car is super peppy for n/a 2wd 4 banger. I love the go cart feel. Weaves around obstacles insane!
The 06 has yet to break down.
Tacoma has already had.. a few:pout:
Hell Even needed a new frame!:lalala:

(With civics...Standards makes a huge difference)
I don't expect huge civic support on freaking....tacomaworld.com :burp: but I will always appreciate civics ride and reliability.
But then I will most likely be driving a tacoma4life.

The good news is for once I'll soon be #1.

The oldest Highlander is only 17.

My '04 only has 9 months to turn 15.........

I've been almost all Asian since the mid 90s, and have been well served.

I've never owned Euro and never intend too. TCO is just not worth it to me, even though several models are fun to shoe.

Looks like the model I was shopping for and could never find a nice example of locally.

For me, functionally, my '13 5 lug has turned out to be a better long term choice.

But I sure like the looks/scale of the 1st gens the best.

Sure hope you sold that private party rather than trading it in.

    Nah.

Toyota stop putting turbos in their frontline cars for a reason. Turbos aren't going to last 15 years on OEM internals.

Supra's and MR2 turbos don't last 15 years. They are still around because, for better are for worse, they are now classic cars from that era, and people are taking the time to keep them running. You definitely don't see many MKIII supra turbos on the road because nobody really cares about those cars.

For the longest time, Toyota's only FI option was their range of TRD superchargers.

I ain’t talking bout 15 year owners. I’m talking about dominating the truck world with a strong L6. Sales would double. Won’t be outselling them anytime soon. But they’ll have a hard time out pulling you with the Taco in 4LO!!

As for the turbos, I’ll take the twins on a derivative (at least a 4.0) Supra power plant any day of the week.

About 10 years ago the dealership gave me a brand new Civic to drive for 3 weeks until they were able to get me a new truck. I hated every second of driving that thing, it had awful ergonomics and was so uncomfortable. The arm rest was almost down to your waist which was useless so then if you put your arm on top of the door panel it was higher than your shoulder. The 2 tier dash was hard to read, cruise control sucked as it constantly went up and down and could not hold a steady speed, and the gas mileage was maybe 25, would never buy a Civic!

You're correct hometown! 4.0 cylinder head and Erson torquer camshaft/springs/stamped steel rockers. He told me to stop smoking the Cali stuff. He said the small block chevy valves were on my 250 build. *palm on face* I blame the Tacoma madness!!!! Makes me forget about all other makes and models...

Let’s keep it real though. Let’s hope the Tacoma rises a few spots. I’m diggin’ this 3rd Gen A LOT.
