    I would say you would probably be okay to give it a try. Take the front drive shaft all the way off...The gears inside are still gunna spin normal. Not sure what using them with no laod will do tho...::Shrug::

    Does the oil just slosh around in there because that's one of my concerns and don't want to starve anything.

    Not a bad idea though, it would be nice to have 2wd low on a 4*4 1st gen+ Old school lockouts you could do this, and I used it for pulling the boat out with the 22r

    Correct but it's gonna make putting the driveshaft back on fun because you will have to lift it up to turn the flnage in order to line it back up.

    I didn't think about that. Do you think it will be easier/possible to take out the cv's? I've never done it before how hard of a job is it?

    Removing the cv's isn't fun and is VERY time consuming. DON'T DO IT. The drive shaft is and easier idea.

    Or you could just remove the electrical connection and vac line from the front diff. That would probably be the simpliest thing to do.

    I don't know where those are? Are they easy to find? I don't want to unplug the wrong thing. The drive shaft is only 8 bolts so I'll probably just do that if I want to try it.

    Do you see any problems with disconnecting the front driveshaft? I wouldn't think so considering the manual recommends disconnecting the rear when towing the truck.

    There should be no problems unbolting the front drive shaft. Also, you should mark the flange so you put it back exactly how it was. You can rotate the front drive shaft by hand if the 4wd actuator is not engaged. This should make reinstalling really easy.

    I've got the it disconnected from the front flange but dang do they have it on tight from the factory. Factory spec is just under 70 ft/pds. There's no way that's what they were at.

    Anybody have an idea for removing it? I unbolted all 8 bolts but now it's in there pretty tight.
