I finally got to take these out on a proper trail today. It was dry but the dirt wasn't dusty...So there was some moisture to it. One bit was tough enough that it required the locker and MTS with a couple of "bumps" to get up out of the crevices.

The tires worked great, and since the trail wasn't really supposed to be all that challenging I wasn't aired down. A year worth of weather has turned it onto a fun, tough trail. The rest of the day was medium speed rock and dirt roads. No chipping on the tread and the e-rated tires soaked up the bumps well.

I recently installed the Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my Tacoma and couldn’t be happier. I had a set of Pro Comp Xtreme MT2s before my Nittos and ended up selling them. 67124620-7435-4BF5-BC38-28E03BFDBBC5.jpg98CBC694-5191-4E67-A02D-3EF8DE965194.jpg

Oh, and just so you know, I just posted this pic in reference to the 265s on another thread in case you were wondering what kind of MPGs are possible in a long range trip:

Ok, so my own snow test results are in and the Nitto Ridge Grapplers are a keeper! I never doubted anyone but knowing no two situations are the same I had to see for myself first hand. My tests were conducted with the following factors.

    Tires are 265/70r17 E range.
PSI is at 34 in the rears, 35 in the fronts.
Driveway surface is old, smooth asphalt.
Incline of both drives are about 15-20 degrees.
Length of the short drive is about 50' and straight.
Length of the long drive is about 100' and curved.

    First test was last weekend.

A freak storm hit an hour or two before we were going into town 50 miles away. Because it was the beginning of the storm, and the roads were not treated we got 15 miles and turned around. We knew if we chanced it we could wind up coming home a couple hours later on even more dangerous roads. Before we got home it was close to 2". I was in 4 High the entire time. I had the wife shoot this pic for me.

    20171209_175221.jpg

Temps were dropping below 27 degrees quick and I know from experience that's when ice will form. I'm really sure we made the right choice...

This past Friday the dumb ass weatherman was off again and we got more snow.

Temps were about 17 degrees the first night and were about 36 degrees the second night.
The snow had a lot of moisture and typical for Maryland. Heavy and packs easy.
The first night it was about 3" - 4" deep.
The second night after settling, about 2" - 3" deep.

I used 4 High the first night on the straight, shorter drive. I kept a constant speed and crawled up without any slip whatsoever. Here are some pics to show how the tires were able to maintain traction and not load up with snow.

    20171215_193308.jpg 20171215_193418.jpg 20171215_193432.jpg

The second night I put my big boy pants on and used 4 Low and came up the longer, curved, steeper drive. No slippage whatsoever again.

Hopefully the pics give you an idea of how long and steep it is. I've slid off this drive in the past with other vehicles. My Tundra with Duratracs was no match but my 4Runner with Duratracs made it up ok.

The first pic below is at eye level when the truck is level and you can see how it disappears out of sight (hence all the reflectors).

In second pic when I was standing closer to the crest you can see the driveway reflectors at the bottom where it meets the common drive which gives you a better idea of thength and height bottom to top.

So for anyone still maybe doubting these tires in the snow. They definitely have my seal of approval. Of course, the 4wd system in the Tacoma Sport combined with a little sense and skill helped too.

I finally got these tires into some snow. Not deep, but frozen underneath so it was slippy. I've been really digging the tires in the dirt. On pavement they are still smooth and quiet. I have about 7500 miles on them so far.
