Over $5g? Ok, dump the $1.25 hose clamp, $75 locks are worth it! :annoyed:

Yep, I’ve had the pipe clamp on since this thread started but I just said fuck it and ordered the $75 lock. Not gonna deal with the thought of a $5k hit to my insurance.

A person with such low morals to steal a tailgate doesn't surprise me they would be careless enough removing it to scratch the body of the truck. Maybe we should install dye packs that explode when the cable is released.

Oh yea, that’s the $75 clamp I mentioned, but your pic looked to me like it was something else like a “T-bolt” clamp or somethingorother and I couldn’t tell what it was. Those are nice and look very well made and designed.

Dave was that a dealership that did the "repairs"?

Glad it was insurance that was footing the bill, but it seemed a bit excessive

As an added precaution, I would bet a lot of parking lot thieves are already parked in the lot and waiting. I would wager they try to time hitting your truck (or car) as soon as they see you enter the building. Someone who has just entered is not likely to immediately return. When you park, scan the parking lot to see (typically parked on the fringe of the lot) anyone just sitting in their car. Someone sitting in a car is not always a "tell," but it's best to be aware. If there is someone sitting, waiting for a victim, it might unnerve them a little to see some dude reverse casing the lot.

Many years ago, I parked my Accord to go into a book store. I parked between two other cars (probably a good cover). Broad daylight. When I returned, one wheel was gone and the thieves looked to have been in preparation to take a second. Now I scan and have added wheel locks.

No they wore done by a body shop all the parts wore order from the dealership but it seem a bit expensive for the tailgate I guess there’s a lot more to it that meets the eye plus there some body damage some scratches

I’m just glad my truck is getting fix and I dont have to pay for anything guess it’s a lesson we’ll learn that’s why I’m posting all this info and prices caused it’s expensive not only are these trucks $40000 plus dollars and for someone to just steal stuff from them low life people I guess..

If you forget to lock it once... at least put washers and a hose clamp on it.

Edit: and as one post said earlier, to help remembering to lock it, just keep the key in the lock when you open it and lock it right away before pulling the key out - you can still close the gate with the handle locked.

Hey Eddie- are you putting this in a newer Gen 3 like a 2017? I saw reviews of similar ones saying they don’t fit 2017’s, so stayed away. If it does fit, it’s a great option.

Seems a lot of this happens at big box hardware store parking lots, too.
