Hello, I’ve searched several forums and haven’t found an answer.

    2006 automatic 4x4

Cruise control stopped working a few months ago. Dash light doesn’t come on and CC can not be set. Everything else on the dash and functions of the truck works fine.

All brakes lights work (including 3rd brake light).

I had the clock spring/spiral cable changed out 4 or 5 years ago.

I bought a new cruise control switch and just installed it and I still have the same issue.

What fuses (if any) can I check? I borrowed a volt meter. I’m about to check the CC switch....what else can I test or check? Thanks in advance.

Check your brake light switch on your pedal. If it's mis adjusted and "bounces" on/off it will cut off the CC. Also, check to see if any codes?? Also check anything that's related to safety .... Door switches. Seat belt switches, etc. be sure to check fuses under the hood as well as the dash fuses.

Thanks for your reply. I think I’ve checked every fuse on the truck. All good. I’ll have to check codes tomorrow. I just popped out the brake switch....here’s a pic:

I pulled the switch out of the wiring harness connector and tested for continuity on the blades. It seems pretty finicky. The meter beeps only intermittently as I’m depressing the switch in and out. Could the switch need replacing? Or is there a way to adjust it so it makes better contact?

I took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts. There was a lot of buildup. Put it back together and seems like the continuity is much better now when I depress the switch.

If the brake actuator switch is adjusted too close to the on/off position, the bumps in the road may jiggle the brake pedal and drop out the cruise - just like stepping on the brake. Also thinking of switches - I "Think" the Transmission has a position sensor switch that my be monitored. If the adjustment is off the computer might not think you are in drive and prevent the CC from engaging.

I put everything back together and took it for a test drive - still not working. I’ll look into the transmission sensor and see if I can locate it. Shortly after I noticed the CC not working, it would occasionally turn on when I fiddled with switch on stage sttering wheel stalk. After a few times of coming back it stopped working all together and hasn’t worked for serveral months now- which is why I figured it might be the switch.

This is what I’m thinking. Like I mentioned above, 4 or 5 years ago the airbag light came on. Did some research on here and took it to the dealer (still under warranty) and they installed the new spiral cable. This all happened before I got the letter for the TSB (?). Since I had just had the work done, I ignored the TSB letter when it came in the mail a few months later. I wonder if they'll still honor it?

I have a 07. Mine will work one day and not the next. When it does work the light still comes on the dash. I just have dealt with it the past 2 months but Miss CC.

Ya, that’s pretty much what mine did until it finally quit. I’ve put up with it for over a year now. Decided to fix it after I found a new switch on Amazon for $15 and realized how easy it is to change out. Too bad the switch isn’t the problem:facepalm:

Unfortunately, that’s what it’s looking like, in my case.

Is the spiral cable an easy fix?

Just thinking here ....... Since the spiral cable is a component in the airbag/restraint system AND they were the last ones who installed it (Factory or under warranty, Perhaps Toyota may consider this a failed "tsb" and replace it again???

At This point I'd bring it to the dealer and play dumb and just ask for the TSB to be performed as you are worried about the air bag.

Dropping the truck off at the dealership tomorrow AM to see if they’ll do anything for me. Unless there’s something I’m missing or haven’t checked, I’m fairly certain it’s gonna be the spiral cable.

Welp. As it turns out, the Cruise Control system can be disabled by error codes. My ABS light is on for my left front wheel sensor (which I’ve known about) but never considered it as being related to the cruise control - which is why I never thought to mention it on here. Now that I’ve thought about it, it makes sense. They charged me a half hour of labor to diagnose $(55) and now I’m on the hunt for a new ABS sensor.

    Lesson learned.

please let us know when it gets fixed. I'd like to know if that fixes the issue - hope so.
