The only reason id buy one is if I had a long commute in a big city everyday (I live in a small town with my business 5 minutes away, so I don't have to worry about that).

The only other benefit I could see for them is fuel economy with a bunch of them bumper to bumper drafting like NASCAR.

Which would be cool if they could do something like this so the cars never have to stop.

The Japanese mail men roll around all winter on 50cc Cubs with wee little tire chains.

That Tesla used only the camera to do the autopilot. The Chevy linked uses a bunch of actual sensors to map everything around it. Completely different.

Ever have your sensors iced up or covered in road grime?

Yeah, and there's a reason the majority of testing is being done in socal. I'm 28 and highly doubt I'll ever see the day that the roads are even 1/10 self driving cars.

    Not exactly...

When we had our Model S lease that year model only had the cameras and the autopilot was not retrofitted- wasn’t interested in paying the cash price to upgrade a leased car - so we only had the lane and speed assist features. If the road wasn’t striped the system would indicate that it was shutting off. The new system no longer requires painted lines and as you can see from this two year old video, works alarmingly well in a suburban environment. We are going to buy a new Model S this year and I’ll certainly tick the autopilot box in the options list but will most likely only use it on the interstate for the first few months as I learn it’s behaviour and become comfortable with it.

The car that drove under the trailer didn't have enhanced capabilities... It was essentially the same car you had that only used a camera.

HOA rules probably prohibit storage of anything but complete, working, registered, and insured cars in the garage. Tools and bikes? That's a fine for the first offense, eviction on the second.

The best part about this, is that the owner cares enough to apply tire shine...

I like the irony of clearly being able to see "All Terrain" on the sidewall.
