This. God yes. I'll trade the manual trans reluctantly for some g'damn reliability and faith that I won't spontaneously fail somewhere on the road.

In a couple more years, you won’t have a choice.

Small displacement and hybrid is the future. The writing has been on the wall.

I came over to test the waters from Ford. And the reliability you all cling to was a joke, and it is clear to me that Toyota as a company does not listen to it's customers, nor does it have any amount of QC, forethought or planning/effort that went into the 3rd gen. Everything in it is half assed or half finished. Even looking into the ECU and fuel management maps, everythings just not complete.

I'm hoping ford will up the anty on the ranger in the coming years. Bigger engine, more options and such.

They’re pulling the Mustang specs. I agree a different tune is likely. That being said you can mess with Ford ECUs and I bet the RS performance parts might even fit this engine.

At the end of the day this engines low end will be very impressive I think which is great for a truck.

I like it but I don't trust the 2.3L at this point. Low mile Focus RS and Mustangs are blowing head gaskets. So far Ford has a revised gasket, but the open deck block is questionable.

I like the front end. There's folks that like a big, tall, aggressive front end, I like sloping and sleek. 310hp/350 torque is fine with me, the turbo wouldn't scare me away. There are multi-millions of turbos on the road globally diesel and gas.

That 350 torque I bet is low in the RPM range which makes it a tow monster. Orale!

The ranger looks fine, nothing super or game changing, but solid.

That being said, I still like my Tacoma more from a appearance perspective. As far as performance, I don’t find my Taco lacking for any of my needs.

For any golfers out there, I compare Toyota to Titleist and Ford to Taylormade. The former is about reputation, consistency, and dependability. The latter is about technology, and numbers (performance and moving product.).

Toyota is opening a second plant in Mexico to make the Tacoma. I’m sure that has nothing to do with moving product though.

You're going to discredit me for my experience with my Tacoma? I did nothing out of the ordinary scope of what these trucks are marketed for, hell Expedition Overland submerged they're trucks in a river in Alaska. Having lived there for 14 years that Alaskan river silt is the finest particulate I've ever seen. There's clearly an issue.

    Moving on

Well every company is looking to move product, otherwise they wouldn’t be in business.

My point was that Ford wants to move the absolute most number of units possible. Not a negative, just an observation.

I think that’s every car company to be honest. Toyota did protect their production of the Tacoma forever but the last 5 years have seen a surge in sales that they’ve expanded to match. I don’t see the differences in quality that were existent 20 years ago anymore. Sure, you’re right about Toyota being all about reputation, but I’m one of those buyers that after experiences with my Tacoma versus my Fords wonders if that is just a carryover from the past that no longer applies.

Of course just my opinion, I’ll be keeping my Tacoma because I’ve put so much into it and have so many memories because of it. It’s a great truck but not because of its quality. The several times Toyota tried to fix faulty trim on my windshield really put a damper on that lol. Nothing like hearing a constant buzzing noise over 60 mph.
