turns out an ironman competition is in galveston this weekend. according to the news:

The triathlon features a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a half-marathon (13.1 miles) all in succession. The swim will begin at Moody Gardens' beautiful white sand Palm Beach, and finish next to the majestic Colonel Paddlewheel boat. The bike ride starts from Moody Gardens, cruises along the Seawall and crosses over San Luis Pass. The marathon course meanders through Moody Gardens along Offats Bayou and Palm Beach. About 1,600 athletes will compete including 30 professional tri-athletes. Events start Saturday with the triathlon starting early Sunday morning at 7am.

not sure what that means, other than traffic might be a little worse....

 

alex, what's the word on the street? how long is the biking event on sunday?

 

I45. South to RT on 61st to RT Stewart Rd./13mile rd.
It will bypast most of the diehards

 

the 56 miles bike ride goes down 3005 over san luis pass. i called galveston pd, they said the roads will not be closed, only delays.

 

Yeah delays for how long... But if should be fine. We could always just drive on the beach once we get past the pocket parks maybe?

 

Hey man, what time are we all meeting up tomorrow. Ya'll ready to get some off roading done. I was down at San Luis wed fishing. There's some pretty good trails!!!

 

depends if you're meeting us in the sears parking lot at baybrook mall. 0930. otherwise; out near san luis, time dependent upon traffic delays from the triathlon competition. i had planned for 1030 at the valero on the far westend, but i don't think we'll make that time. you have my number still?

 

Bakerla, sorry for the late reply, I was out at my friend's house all yesterday and last night by the pass. The delays were not bad, Maybe 10 minutes tops overall. One lane closed, but not much traffic on that road by the west end so it hardly matters
