I appreciate the competition in the segment now and will be keeping my eye on it as the years go on with their refreshes (new power plants, transmissions, options, Raptor version).
That said, based on what info they chose to release, the pictures and how much efforrt they put into the hype (very little), I guess Ford is aiming for a crowd pleaser average Joe truck. Nothing fancy, and not too advanced to take away from the F150.

When Ford needs to hype shit they know how. (Mustang Gt350, Ford GT, RS, and F150) To me it seems like this is a step kid married into the Fam.

Good! Just here to hear other people opinions and what are facts and what's are rumors  It's a great time to be in the mid size truck. Lots of good competition for Toyota to force them into making their trucks better  Can't wait to see what Hyundai and Mercedes has to offer since they are also looking at the mid size truck class. Good news IMO

    How about you?

Looks like there is only 1 powertrain option...2.3 liter turbocharged 4cyl with 10 speed auto. No manual, and it appears you can only get a short bed with the 4 door. Only get long bed with extended or access cab.

I would have thought ford would have way more configurations, but i guess not.

Same thing! Although there are no less than 56 threads today on the same subject.

I've never owned a ranger, but I always liked them. Growing up, my best friends father had one (2WD extra cab) and he took us everywhere in that thing. Places I probably wouldn't take my Taco now. Towed numerous popup campers and small travel trailers. I remember being cramped up sitting on those small jump seats for hours. I almost bought one in 2011 when my 99 F150 with nearly 200K miles finally rusted out, but I heard they were going to stop making the Ranger, so I went with the Taco.

I also think the competition will be good.

Agreed, I've driven a few Rangers in my early days. Fun trucks and it'll only make the mid size truck class better

I'm kinda glad you can't get a manual, because then I may consider trading my 3rd gen taco.
However, with the head gasket issues Ford has been seeing with other turbo models, such as the Focus RS, I'd want to sit back and see how reliability pans out for these.
A 4 cylinder turbodiesel with a 6 speed manual would really make the ranger a competitor for my attention.
That combo ALMOST won me over to a Nissan Frontier, but it wasn't easy to round one up when i was ready for a new truck.

It will have FordSync3 with Android Auto/apple carplay. It will also have that stupid auto start/stop technology, but there will be a button to turn it off.(I hope)
There will also be different packages available for each trim such as a Chrome package and a Sport package.

Many engines are open deck, With forced induction closed deck is preferred. Funny thing is Ford Racing makes a 2.3L closed deck block for performance builds. It's quite possible the Ranger have a different variant.
