Now I am confused....didn't you just ask me if I had to buy something "today", what would I get? At least that is what I thought you were implying a hypothetical question.

In reality, nothing on the current market excites me enough to put a $30-35K dent in my finances. Why I keep on fixing my old crap. I don't believe Toyota's quality is what it used to be, at least from reading all the complaints here on the 3rd Gen forum.

Actually there are no real earth shattering complaints. Just all minor bs. Some a cps, some had a seal, wind noise, wow.
At least the frame isn't disappearing, lol. I have had only a battery go bad on mine and today it's as perfect as I drove it off the lot almost 1.5 years ago.
Perfect everytime I drive it. No shift problems, no howl, nothing.
35K these days is not that much for a vehicle actually.

    Ahh...that would be a no.

Now if you had a 2014 HiLux, with a 3.0 D4D, backed by manual trans, then yes....

Yes it is and no they don’t. Wether it be the 2.7 Ecoboost, 3.5 Ecoboost or the Raptor version, all 3 absolutely haul the mail.

There better be nothing wrong with it if it is only 1.5 years old. lol!

Talk to me when you're getting close to 400K miles, and nearly 20 years old.

Not sure if the new ones will go as long...not sure about the Ford either.

I sure as hell hope you are not having Frame issues on a brand new Truck, I have had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Gen Tacoma's and sprayed anti rust on the frame and underside and never had a spec of rust.

Ha ha! (thought you meant I was jello of 3rd gens) They are nice, and still feel like a Toyota, just can't get over the styling.

    I didn't delete it, twern't me!

No rust on my 1st gen, though it helps it spent most of its' life in AZ.

"Hard core old Toyota guys?" Dude, I have no idea how old or hard core you are but I bought my first new Toyota 4Runner off the showroom floor in 1984. Had a Toyota of some type ever since. Styling aside (that is individual opinion... like colors) the 3rd gen is light years ahead of the old trucks, unless you live on top of a rock 40 miles from the nearest hard road and 30 miles from the nearest gravel road. So you don't like the styling... that's fine. Don't insult the rest of the truck. Go find some specs on payload, power, torque, etc and compare all three generations. They have only gotten better with time.

Also your codpiece fixation is sorta uncomfortable lol.

Would never have anything 400K at 20 years old.
You said there were ALL these complaints floating around on 3rd gen.
I like to enjoy life, and fortunately can.
Plus I threw out my 8 track tapes.

Mine are exposed to plenty of Rain, Snow, and Salt, if you take care of your vehicles you are good to go.

I hope this truck outsells the Tacoma. Why? Because until Toyota has some competition they will just keep rehashing the same old thing over and over. My truck is paid for and I won't be in the market for a new one for another 10 years or so, and they damn well better have something more modern by then.

I return you to your 3 gen bashing - enjoy

My first was an '85 4Runner. and that was 26 years ago, bought it slightly used when I was 19. Back then everyone made fun of me for buying "Jap Crap", funny how things have changed...now you're made fun of if you want buy a Ford.

Power has greatly improve as I have said, mpg is lack luster that hasn't changed much, years ago it was an improvement over my '76 F250 that was 8-10...payload has indeed gone down (you can look it up), ever since the US quit getting the HiLux.

Well, I do live in Idaho...it is mostly 3/4-1 Ton diesels here. :D

Styling is awful, find it hard to look at, as with most of the new vehicles on the road. Nothing really appeals to me.
