And you'd probably get a 0% for 60 months too (for those not paying cash).

It wont take a whole lot to make it ultra competitive vs the Tacoma. Adjustable seats, a diff that doesn't howl, a transmission that doesn't suck, Android Auto/Carplay, and/or any of that other stuff, like you mentioned, that Ford is known to let folks add to their trucks a la carte (bed speakers, a tailgate ladder, ditch lights, cooled seats, etc).

The one engine option is a non-issue. Seriously besides the 12 guys that bought the 4 banger, almost every else got the ONE V6 option. I'd venture to say that most the 4 banger folks did it for either gas mileage or price. The Ranger might compete with the Toyota 4banger on both. Toyota's got to start turbo/super charging these things if they want to stay competitive. Everyone else is. Honda is starting to turbo charge their line-up. I can't imagine Toyota is too far behind.

As for stealing from their F150 market, I am not sure they will steal as much as some people think. I'm probably their target market. I considered an F150 (and other full size trucks) but its just too big for what I need. The market is for folks that want an adventuremobile and something that they buy almost "aspirationally". You know..so that they could do stuff like driving on the beach, off-roading, overlanding, driving up a mountain in 4low, blasting around some dunes . (Yes, I know some people actually use their trucks like the advertisements--but I'd venture a guess that over 80% of folks probably never really need 4x4). They want that weekend warrior crowd that camps, kayaks, mountain bikes, throws some mulch in the back on occasion, puts their muddy dog and gear back there, or uses it to move their buddy's futon. The folks that need the occasional utility of a truck, dont really tow much, but still want to be able to park in parking garages or on the street in a city.

Realistically, imo, this is more likely to snag some Subaru drivers, Explorer, 4runner, light SUV drivers, and well as their direct competition in the mid-size truck market. Ford has usually been the most price competitive and their aftermarket parts scene is usually huge (obviously the new truck will take some time).

It's not the one engine issue that people don't like, it's the one PAIR that people don't like. There are a lot of people here on TW who bought the One V6 with the MANUAL

I am originally from PA, yeah if you take care of it, should last a long time. Now in Idaho, they don't salt/mag chloride as bad here, but still get under there and clean it, and spray on some rust proofing. Why buy a new truck if the old one has long been paid for, and is still running just fine.

Yeah most people get bored and trade in. Can't tell if a vehicle is any good or not unless you put some miles and years on it.

Yes, there are plenty of complaint threads in the 3rd gen forum, it isn't confidence inspiring. Poor shifting, howling/leaking rear diffs, etc...

I am trying to retire sooner rather than later, so not buying a new truck every couple years like most people do, gets me closer to my goal.

3rd Gen Taco doesn't excite me enough to pull $35K out of my retirement to buy one. Definitely due for a new truck, but the next one is probably the last one I will ever buy, be my retirement gift to myself.

Sorry if we've derailed the discussion. I really like that ice chest in the bed of the Ridgeline though.

I'm going to check it out when they start hitting the lot and give it a year or so to work out the bugs. By then, my Taco will be getting close to 4 years old.

I've been considering the 3.5 tune thats out but for $700 I'm skeptical of it because it may just be polishing the turd.

Just tired of the gear hunting on the interstate and erratic shifting.

For all the complaints, Toyota still hasn't done anything to address the issue that I'm aware of. Just keep pumping these out and ignore it.
