Can someone tell me which one is SPST N. O. (normal open) so I can go get one from the dealer. I am just trying to jump my garage door openner (will be hidden) to the switch. I can use an after market switch but OEM will look cleaner on the dash. My truck doesn't have all the options and all the switches I have are not N.O. swiches (I think)

    thanks

i think you're looking for a momentary switch.....only activated when the button is pushed--release turns the power off again.

If you want to hide the garage door opener, there is a compartment on the overhead console made for that. That's what I use and it works great.

I read that in the owners manual but I swear my truck doesn't have one (not sure if the OPs does). All I have is the compass/temp gauge, overhead lights, and a sunglasses holder compartment.

Yup, a little disappointed about that too. I wish it had a homelink embedded opener, but not even having a compartment for it feels like I'm going 5 years back into the past with the damn visor clip-on. :(

Yeah that's it. I looked up on Google and found "Normal Open".

So I guess none of these on the dash is momentary? My truck doesn't have the little compartment for remote.

idk about most of you, but there was a rash of burgleries of people that had their opener in plain sight, through "homelink", clipped on, and so forth. When I used to carry my opener in the truck, I would put it in the back pocket of the passengee seat. The button facing the rear. When I got home, I would just reach behind and push the button.

no thief would normally check into those pockets.. I guess unless they read tw now...

yea granted, the thief would enter a car in the driveway, push the button, and at least get some sweet stuff in the garage..

Something that I would do in your situation, would be to go to a wrecking yard, and pull a couple of switches out of a totalled truck. If I am correct on these switches, there will likely be a little latching mechanism to keep it "on" when you press the button, not unlike that of a click pen. You can then carefully take one apart, and remove the bit of plastic that latches the switch in the on position, reassemble without that piece, and viola, you have a PBNO switch.

You meant to put the garage remote right behind the switch (without the latching legs) and when pushing the switch, will mechanically push the button on the remote?

My plan is to put the remote in that little enclosed compartment on the left side of the steering wheel with the wires jumped between remote and the switch. This way, if I need to change the battery, it's easy.

I just clip on the little cubby hole near where the key goes in. It's out of the way and the signal still works from there.

There are many places to clip it on, like on the outside of the little compartment on the left I mentioned above and it's still out of the way. I just want a cheap efficient but perfect solution. It's my sickness....LOL. In my other car, I even drew on the button with white paint pen the picture of the house :D

No, I'm talking about converting a factory pushbutton on/off switch into a momentary one. I have had a similar style of switch apart before. The ones I was playing around with typically had a little spring loaded catch mounted into the sliding part of the switch, that holds the switch "on" until it is pressed again, allowing the catch to release. If you remove the catch, the switch cannot latch into the on position. You would then wire the switch up like you are planning on doing, using only the tabs you need to complete your circuit. Now, if there is an electronic latching circuit embedded in these switches, then my suggestion will not help.

I recommend getting one used, so you can get it cheap. This way, if you either break it trying to disassemble it, or find that it cannot be converted, then you won't be out much.

If someone has a broken factory switch lying around that they are willing to donate to me, I'll be more than happy to take it apart, and record the process of converting one. I'll then post it on my youtube channel to share with everyone.
