Dunno, maybe they didn't realize it was that thick and heavy and just thought 'oh this cover is in the way, gotta remove it' and just reached for the air impact only. Gonna be funny though.

 

Ugh I can't decide to do a mid travel on the front end long travel in the rear or leave it mid travel in the front and rear.

I plan on doing some overlanding and trail riding. I don't tow anything so I'm not worried about that. But I want the leafs to handle the weight of tools, recovery gear, 2 spares, rooftop tent, extra gas and water as well as spare parts.

Any "easy" kits I can look at?

Sadly not that I know of, I scoured the web for block off plates. I made my own. My sensors broke when swapping spindles and I wasn't about to spend a fuck ton on sensors for a disabled ABS system.

Not a bad idea. The complete front end looks to have new bearings and I didn't want it to go to waste. Not to mention it looks like he got the proper dust shields, or these are tundra knuckles.

I know they're ADD but I just waste a good bit of cash collecting parts. Non-add can wait for now.

Sorry for all your struggles over the weekend with your truck! So those bushings will definitely fit! But there is a little known trick about it. The Dakars run a metal sleeve in the main eyes that allows their pressed in bushings to fit properly. So by removing that sleeve in each leaf spring (which can be a pain as well), you would then be able to run those Daystar bushings.

 

Here's my 2003 4x4 5 Speed Tacoma 219k miles still runs awesome. Awesome I got a hold of this thing at 17 years old. Hard to tell but I have LED Headlights. The rest is: Full Flow-master Exhaust, 2 Inch Body Lift, Rock Crawler Clutch, All Black Grille, K&N Cold Air, 32 BF Goodrich Tires.

 

How do led headlights do in halogen reflectors?

Anyone know t case flange measurements and rear differential flange. I want to get a one piece drive line. And I am no where near my truck till Saturday.

 

That sleeve was also rusted in place.
If that sleeve was not there, the bushings probably could have been pressed in.

I will find the bolt/sleeve/"whats left of the bushing" and take a photo so others can see what it takes to get this out...

 

IMHO, the most significant mods are typically the ones you can't see. The ones you can see, are usually just bling.

there are no bolt in or simple LT setups for 1st gens.

One way would to get the solo rear shock hoop kit, or bend your own, get a wider rear axle. Hydro bump stops and do a SUA kit. By doing outboard shocks you could maybe get away from going through the bed possibly. But you wouldn't gain a lot of travel over a SOA setup without going into the bed. Though probably a little. Id guess 13-14'' of vertical travel.

But really, if you get spring to hold the weight you have that work well. Then just get a nice shock and relocate it similar to Bretts setup seen earlier and spend some time getting the valving right. You'd still be very happy and be able to push the truck to the point where you start thinking about a cage. it won't eat big whoops or bumps like a LT truck but still be a hell of a lot of fun and work great everywhere and doesn't make the truck wider.

Getting parts ordered from Gunny for the valve cover gasket replacement today. Still looking for a reasonably prices valve cover, someone is supposed to let me know by tonight but I'm not getting my hopes up.

 

I've been researching a little on cv axles. It seems that the axle from a 3rd gen 4Runner is the same as the 1st gen Tacoma. Has anyone confirmed this or used a 4Runner axle in their Tacoma? A quick search on NAPA shows the same numbers for their axles for both vehicles

I found this part number for the 4Runner 434303503084. It will be amazing if they are the same, I was seeing OEM axle for Tacoma's at $400+ while the 4Runner ones are $150ish

Like an idiot I threw both of my OEM axles away when i blew the boots on them.

 

Yeah they're the same provided they both have ADD front hubs. If one has manual hubs and the other doesn't it is a no go.
