I just dont need more stuff to take up room in the truck  nah but in all seriousness, it doesnt look any less strong with the butt splice. I just like to see all my options. in this case, it seems there is 2. either a butt splice, or make 3 eyes in the rope (1 for winch rope, and 2 eyes for the extension)

    This is true.
It was a good thing that I was only one the first wrap on the drum when I pulled Greg out. Even with a double line pull it was quite a load on the winch.

What was he hung up on so badly? Did you worry about bending whatever point the truck was hung up by when you were winching that hard?

So with the freezing temps the last few weeks, the water froze over pretty thick. Then there was a few days of warmer weather which melted some of the ice. On Friday up there it was 51* if I remember correctly. Well we all know what happened, overnight the freezing temps came back and so did some nasty winds. The top layer of water turned to ice again. It was a parfait of treachery. @El Dahs broke thru the top layer in most spots throughout the day. This particular spot, however, he managed to break through everything. It was deep enough that he was up to his knee standing in it. Drivers side was broken thru everything, but the passenger side was not.

Bending and breaking was definitely a concern while trying to get him out. We tried winching him backwards to no avail. Then we went around him and that's where @stairgod strapped off to a tree, doubled his line pull, and slowly pulled him free. I'll get the video uploaded shortly.

The other video I have, which occurrd after this one, basically shows him breaking thru the ice. I didn't upload it because in the middle of the video, I turn my phone sideways. Is there a way I can make it not go from verticle to horizontal when I turn my phone? Obviously I should just video in one direction from the start. I prefer my phone horizontal, but when shit is getting going, I kinda forget about it lol.
