Seems like this could eventually be accessed via a system update.

    https://techcrunch.com/2018/01/15/t...s-year/?utm_source=tcfbpage&sr_share=facebook

"Toyota announced that Alexa would be coming to some of its vehicles via the Entune 3.0 (Toyota) and Enform 2.0 (Lexus) infotainment system updates, but now we know that CarPlay will also be part of the package on these stems for some vehicles going forward. It’s not yet clear how many 2019 year models will include CarPlay support, or whether this will also be coming to older vehicles that are getting the Entune 3.0 and Enform 2.0 updates."

Can't imagine Toyota will fork over the capital to develop a new infotainment system for 2019+ Tacomas, so this looks highly feasible.

Currently Entune 3.0 are exclusive to 2018 Camry and Sienna. https://www.toyota.com/entune/

Also found this, although I'm a bit skeptical.
    https://www.downeasttoyota.com/blog/what-are-the-toyota-entune-3-0-features/

"Are you searching for a new vehicle that will keep you connected and entertained at every turn? With the addition of the next-generation Toyota Entune 3.0 interface to your next Toyota Tacoma, you will have access to on-board Wi-Fi, improved connectivity and standard App Suite Connect."

Does the Tacoma have entune 3.0 or is there an update planned for this?

I'm guessing it's 2.xxx for now. A 3.0 update for our trucks will be wildly posted, I imagine. Now we play the waiting game, but I think this is (overall) positive news.

Ohhhh good god thank you! I hate the GPS and just about everything about the Entune system. My gf has Apple car play and it’s an awesome feature to have.

Not sure how to see which version number you/I have in our trucks. I am sure it can be found via the infotainment screen, possibly in or near the updates.

With that said, it is my understanding that we (3rd Gens) all have 2.xxx.

    And

NO Taco up to and including the MY-2018 has Entune 3.

I don’t see Toyota updating older systems for anyone unless we pay a 300 dollar fee or something if that nature.

How would Alexa work in a vehicle?

Well, I remember the last time I had a girl named Alexa in my truck, she did a pretty good job of, oh wait, we are talking about the voice from Amazon.
In the vehicle you can use it to play music same as you would at home. Depending on how integrated they get, you could possibly use her to lock your doors from your office, she could tell you the weather forecast. I would imagine you could pick up your phone from your bed and say Alexa, start my truck, and you can have a warmed up truck when you get outside.

Nothing could come good from having Alexa in the car. What if she's PMSing and activates the TSS auto braking system???
Or she replays the conversation you had with your GF last time, when your wife is in the truck:frusty:.

Let's see... Toyota added a Qi charger which won't work for Apple. Do you really think carplay is the first interface they will use? My bet is Android auto.

That generation doesn't have wireless charging of any kind, but the 8 and X (and future iPhones) do.

Or you can get a battery pack+wireless charging case from Mophi for the 6 or 6S. I did that for my 6 and it works great.

The iPhone 6S does not have wireless charging from the manufacture.
