leaf tsb or aal?

Hello, I am in a situation. I have had my tacoma for about 10 month and just recently I've added a canopy and have 200 pounds of tools and its been riding rough and I bottom out on everything! I talked to toyota and I missed suspension TSB by 5 months. They cost $600 per side. So right now I could spend the $1200 or add a leaf to my 3 leaf pack. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of them and any differences?

 

If you are out of warranty- I'd get an AAL and some air bags or a whole new leaf pack.

 

Kinda shitty that toyota wont make things how they should have been from the start just because you are out of warranty. :/

Get yourself an aftermarket leaf spring kit - you could probably get them for under $600 for a PAIR and install them yourself.

Whole leaf paks are better than AAL's - especially if you can afford the extra cost.

 

Well if I did add an aal to my pack will it be like the tsb? I just don't want it to be intensely stiff. I want it to feel stock. Ya know?

 

No it won't be like the TSBs- In general AALs are for lifting where the TSB is primarily for load with the added benefit of a little bit of lift.

I would get some air bags honestly. That'll ride stock but give you some extra support for the loading.

 

First I'd try a few other dealers, might find one willing to do it for free even though you're out of warranty. Aside from that, what Brunes said.

So I phoned up toyota Canada and they told me to talk to the service manager about my problem and that he would have the power to over ride it. So anyways long story short they agreed to do the tsb and all I have to pay is 25% of the install (parts/labor). I thought it was a pretty good deal.

 

Lucky your service manager isn't a complete douchebag. Here were my service managers exact words, "Did you buy the extended warranty? Don't you wish you did now?"

What does the canopy weigh??? I want the tsb and i am going to give them a payload.

 

Well I'm guessing my canopy weigh around 150lbs. Maybe a bit lighter.

It rides so much better! And it is a bit higher in the back but I think it will level out a bit. The only thing I'm still concerned about is the way its sitting at the moment. I'm not to sure how it is supposed to sit and how arc the spring should be at normal load conditions. Can anyone post pics of their leaf packs?

 

Fuck Toyota!!!!!!!! They should stand by their product warranty or not since it was an issue straight from the factory anyway.They obviously lied about the payload capacity so they should be liable for it.

Back in 1990 I owned a 1987 Camaro Iroc Z that at 36,600 miles the motor started knocking.The dealer told me no big deal and to drive it until they could get me in 5 days later.The next day the rod shot through the oil pan.They would not warranty it until I had a lawyer call them then BAM............full warranty and a new engine.Ya gotta play hardball with these motherfuckers or you'll get nowhere.Tell Toyota to give you the TSB leafs or you will go to an attorney..........since like I said they lied about the payload from day one.All you out of warranty 05-present Taco owners should do the same thing.

I just got my TSB leaf done on my 2010 and this is the way it should have shipped straight from the factory.

 

I had an opportunity to ride in a stock TRD Sport double cab the other day. We were bottoming out everywhere we went. I forgot how much the AAL IMPROVED my ride.

I'm just waiting on my dakars to ship now.

 

I am glad to hear you'll be getting the updated leaf packs. That is the best way to go.

The TSB isn't covered by extended warranty only 3year/36K mile warranty, so the service manager was wrong.

I can't believe that the AAL improved the ride. It is not designed to do that. It is designed as a cheap way to increase the ride height. If anything it would have made the ride a little stiffer.
