What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

The law is similar here in Kentucky, I'm speaking from saftey studies conducted by various organizations and the laws in other countries.

 

AH. Gotcha. There is no way my son will be able to fit rear facing until 5. He's a big kid already as it is, and he's only 3.

 

My boy is counting the days till he can sit up front. I’ve let him ride up front when doing light wheeling and he loves it.

 

LOL. Same here! My son loves sitting in the front. I only let him do it when I am on my street, and literally down the road from my house. We live on a road that there is no traffic, and the only cars that drive through are the people that live on the same road.

 

My kids legs got to long for rear facing. Plus they enjoyed looking forward and it made it easier to see/talk to them. Made trips more pleasant

 

Same. One more year for the second one.

 

PREACH! That long trip convenience is a MUST. We went to WV a few times, it's a 10 hour drive from me in CT, to go see my bro in law. A few times he was still rear facing. The first time it was OK cause he was still "young", and someone was in the back with him. But the next time it was front facing already. What a huge difference! Loved it! Both us and him.

 

I'm not gonna bore everyone with a bunch of articles and links to websites but they showed some huge kids sitting rear facing. I won't turn up a nose to anyone doing what they feel is best for their kid but I'm gonna play it safe and keep him rear facing as long as possible. He is 2.5 and 35 pounds and hasn't complained at all and still goes to sleep after 2 minutes on the road. I want him to be forward facing for the simplicity and added room up front but it's not worth it at this point for me. Will he stay that way till 5? Highly doubtful. But at least another year or more.

I hear ya. Every kid is different, and same goes for every parent. All good.

 

I just kind of tossed them down under the reflector bowl. No idea where they're at now in there though

 

How is that bed rack set up? Is it DIY and how if so?

There is a fabricator out there that makes a kit to replace the stock front bumper mounting bolts and plates but I can't remember who it is. I remember that you cut off the factory bolts and then weld on the plate and it has bolts installed.
Can anyone lead me in the right direction.

Quick and dirty, the way it was set up at that time, it was 60" lengths of 1 5/8" Unistrut, attached to the bed tracks with 90 degree unistrut brackets and T-Nuts

With regard to child seats, I think about when I was a kid in the early 60's, standing in the front seat, and the only type of "restraint" we had was Mom throwing her arm out whilst slamming on the brakes.
