It’s so beautiful there though. And great food and beer. I see why people would put up with that.

I had an Island Hop IPA at the Catalina Brew House the other day. It was pretty damn tasty!

I have noticed this as well, and it's not just Tacos. My wife's 5 speed MT Subaru spins at 3400 rpm at 75mph. Manuals historically get better mpg's. I'm beginning to suspect that manufacturers are gearing the manuals higher to kill their mpg's and eliminate them from the American market altogether to streamline the manufacturing process.

I run 40 psi cold in 285/75/16 KO2's E rated tires. You really need to do a chalk test to verify proper wear. If you carry any extra weight over stock it might be to low.

Edit: My sweet spot is ~65 mph (61 mph considering 7% tire size increase) getting 18 mpg with 70/30 highway/city driving. I'm also have 3" lift and 300 lbs of steel. The peddle is very sensitive where you can be driving at the same speed but back off the peddle 1/4" and watch the instant mpg climb.

Thanks - you have a good point. My extra weight is a fiberglass shell, I think only 150 lbs or so, but it does make a difference.

Coincidentally I just brought my truck in for Toyotacare and they filled the stock Goodyears to 33 psi cold. The truck drives much better now - just feels peppier and handles better. So I think 30 was too low for everyday street/highway use.

Crazy.... lol... Im lucky to see 15mpg (city driving)... On a highway trip I can average right at 20mpgs... I have a heavy foot.

I think of it as “smiles per gallon” and not “miles per gallon”...

Grab the side of the bed and shake the truck to burp the tank. Air gets trapped in the tanks, sometimes it needs some help to vacate.

Just keep an eye on the quantity pumped, overfilling can cause premature wear on emissions components or other issues.

LOL. By doing this, it prevents the possibility of condensation in a fuel tank. All fuel has a small amount of water in it. I live in a very humid environment one of my other vehicles has had the gas tank replaced twice due to corrosion from condensation buildup inside the tank. Granted, these tanks aren't steel, but they still condense.

Here's a little project for you...take some gasoline and fill a jar half full and put a lid on it, then fill a jar completely full and put the lid on. Let them sit outside in the sun for 2 days. Tell me how much water you find in each.

The same principle applies to your vehicle. Let's say for example you park at the airport with 1/2 tank of gas remaining and leave it for 3 days. How much water is in your fuel? You don't know, hence filling to the brim prevents the internal condensing process and keeps you from running standing water through your engine.

Am I being a little dramatic, maybe, but as a career pilot I don't want water in my fuel on the plane and I apply the "top-off" principle to my vehicles as well.

Everyone has their own personal risk assessments to consider. I live in a dry climate and have seen the effects of topping off. Just another example of one size doesn't fit all.

I hear that. I just remember reading about it being damaging to the system.

I would thing that the difference in moisture absortion from a full gas tank and one that is over-topped, would be negligible, but I see where you come from.

Here is a little article that explains why over-topping can br damaging:

    https://www.angieslist.com/articles/car-myth-or-fact-should-you-top-your-gas-tank.htm

    Agreed.

Got this on the way home today . Was on cruise control maybe 1/3 the trip . Hilly terrain but able to stay in 6th gear half the time. ( manual trans. ) Has a 2.5”
lift , bigger tires , large mud flap , Leer Cap , tail gate reinforcing plate ( its heavy) and a 115 lb. bumper . So to most people it’s weighted down pretty good . These 3rd gen Tacoma’s weigh a lot less that the other generations . So comparing it to my 02 with the same equipment , the 02 is much heavier all around . Now if I do the trip again tomorrow , I’m willing to bet mileage will be different . Honestly I don’t friggin give a crap either . I buy trucks cuz I want a truck , not an economy car with great gas milage . Crying about gas mileage is ridiculous with trucks . Get a Camry
