Once you've had your dash apart a couple times, you can swap that pesky core in like 1.5hrs. So much easier on these than anything else I've ever owned.

 

That's very true, its just something I'd rather not deal with if I don't have to

 

Blame Toyota for it even having to be done, they made it out of copper while the rest of the cooling system is comprised of Iron and Aluminum, galvanic corrosion sets in and the weak metal gives in. Just hope the PO replaced it with something other than OEM, so you get an aluminum one.

 

What about the fan only coming on when on the high setting? Worn out switch/ circuit or something?

I don’t believe the core is bad, still blows hot air and theres no water coming out of anywhere.

 

Probably the blower motor resistor, the other links can burn out over time and then the only one left is full speed.

 

Next time I see him I will ask, he lives one street over. Toyota did some dumb things with these trucks but they do seem to last forever

Yup, and it is super easy to replace too, two screws and a connector after you take out the glovebox.

 

Oh cool, thought you were gonna say take the dash out or something.

Visited the transmission shop today to pick up my parking pass and drop off the wheel lock key. They haven't looked at it yet, said they'll call me tomorrow. I still think it's the flexplate.

I thought it was nice they parked it next to another 1st Gen. Lady told me that truck has a P0475 on it or something.

 

Probably swapping parts off your truck onto that one.
