Another Nerf Bar Question

I'm going to order some nerf bars soon. Probably 4 or 5 inch. My question is does anyone know of any one particular set that sits far enough away from the truck so you can actually step on it. It seems like some are mounted to close to the truck that is seems more like a hazard than a help. I like this pair from Lund,seems like there's room to step on them.

Can't answer your question but I've got to admit, my Ionic 4" bars sit pretty close. Either I have to pretty much stand up on them and then step down to the ground, or just put my legs over them altogether and reach for the ground. Both strategies are a bit awkward and the bars feel like they are in the way as opposed to really helping. I hope they at least help to protect from some door dings.

I have those exact Lund bars in black. Room to step and easy install.

 

I also have those same Lunds in black. They are set far enough out for my liking. As a side note, Lund's customer service is great. I had some bubbling and rust spots in the powder coating on one of my bars. I contacted the company about it. They had me send a photo of the problem and proof of purchase. They then sent me a complete new set to rectify the problem. Great service.

 

Does Lund have a warranty or a certain time frame where they guarantee no rust?

 

According to their website, they are covered by a lifetime limited warranty. I'm not sure what that all includes.

 

I had the oem matte black ones i just sold they protect from door dings and are far enough to be steps. You can find them on here for 250$ if you wait and they look great

 

I have the step-in the slot kind from N-fab -- I like them a lot. I have discovered that when you are "forced" to put your foot in the slot -- one tends to be (at least I do) more careful about getting a firm footing. On my previous truck I had the flat top bar type with the two pads to put your foot on. Several times --when wet or snowy My foot slipped on that hard plastic/vinyl surface. The raised rough metal surface on the N-fabs plus the defined (only) place to put your foot has stopped this.
If you are going off-road a lot -- these may not be for you.

One more concern I have is will they work with mud flaps on the truck.

 

Most (or all) should clear the mudflaps just fine. I installed the OEM tubesteps. Works fine and no issues with the flaps.

 

Now i just have to decide on the size. I see some 3" ones for $140,I'm wondering if they will be enough of a step to actually use as a step.I would think the 3" ones would offer more space between the truck body and the bar so you could actually put your foot on it.

 

I have those lund 5'' bars and they are far enough away where you can step on it (I don't really use it but others do to get in).

They actually do help with door dings as I tried with my wife's car.

Not sure if this directly correlated but after I installed the bars I did see a reduction in MPGs though. I don't really drive aggresively with this truck so not sure what could've happened.

 

anyone have any photos of these on your Tacoma? Im close to pulling the trigger on the 5" Lund nerf bars.

 

I don’t remember the brand, but think they’re 5”. Plenty of room to step on. I’m about to take mine off and putting sliders on

 

I have had my Lund 5" for 2 years now. No issues getting in and out. Great door ding protection as well.

 

thanks, btw great color choice but I am a bit biased lol. I went ahead and purchased a set of these. Watched a few install videos and looks easy enough.
