There’s a big difference between cab angle on the first gen trucks, extended and regular cab. The reg cab is more vertical, whereas the extended cab is more slanted. Will you have different versions for the first gen, or will one body style just have to deal with a semi funky gap?

If I weren’t planning to move next month, I’d have put down a deposit already

 

ahhh thats why your wildernest looks better mounted then mine. Goes much better with the more vertical cab.

 

Yep! Would make more sense to have a GFC that matches the regular cabs, and eliminates possible fitment issues.

Something angled for the extra cab would possibly rub the back of a regular cab

GFC do you recommend any modifications to the truck to accommodate the camper? Will the rear sag very much with camper and camping gear on stock suspension?

 

It weighs about as much as your buddy Carl, have him sit in the bed above the axle. You'll have your answer to the sagging question.

 

If you’re not lifting the truck or going crazy with gear you won’t need to do anything. On the gfc build we lifted it a bit so we went with Deaver u402 stage 1 leaf springs in the back. These are basically the Deaver expedition pack but the lightest load rating. I pack light so for 20 days in Baja I have about 375 pounds in the bed including the camper and the stage 1 springs are perfect.

 

Looks like you settled on a piano hinge? What happened to the badass extendo scissor hinge you made up earlier on? Or am i dumb? I'm asking questions as i read, so it may have already been answered.

 

It’s a one piece polyethylene hinge. The machined hinge was cool but didn’t prevent water from pouring in when open so we would have had to add a seal and it required more stiffeners in the panel which was heavier. So the poly hinge ended up being a lighter solution with better foul weather performance. I didn’t want to give it up but it’s hard to argue with simpler lighter and works better

I did. We don’t have the lower design in cad yet for those trucks but we will either find a way to make one design that looks good on both or we will make distinct models.

I don't see how they'll be able to match the curvature on the extra-cabs with their tube structure.

Doesn't sound like it, which is fine with me. As long as it seals well, i'll just plan to use a bed rug for the floor. and maybe put carpet on the bottom of the mattress tiles.

 

The sleeping area comes with upholstered mattress cushions. The lower section is just whatever you have in your truck bed. So no carpet downstairs is included with the camper. The lower interior is just the steel tube frame and aluminum panel like in the photo posted a while ago in this thread. I have a carpeted bed Platform in mine but that’s just a piece of plywood with some indoor outdoor carpet on it (we will be making a better bed Platform as an option eventually). The rubber seals prevent the panels from rattling. One of our main design goals was that any material that can rot or mildew has to be easily removeable or replaceable. So the only parts that aren’t metal or plastic are the tent sides and mattress. We want this to be something that still smells nice ten years after you’ve bought it

 

Any idea on how the shell will be mounted to the 1st gens?
