Only...if you get the $100+ TRD Pro shift knob to go with it. People will look inside and say "I knew it! " otherwise.

Grilles are fine. Putting a TRD Off Road or Sport sticker on when it's not, super lame.

I don't think he cares to much what people think. He just doesn't want to be one of those guys that put SS or SVT badge on a stock car. You know the guys we roll up on at stop lights and laugh at with there big ass spoilers on fwd. So I get it. And I say to it. The pro grill is the best option to change the look of your truck fast and cheap. I was able to snag one of the $140 ones off ebay no regrets

It's not really a terrible faux pas.

    1. If you were coming from the Cheesegrater grille, do the sighted world a favor and replace it with a Pro grille. But you have the SR5 grille, so it's a wash.
    2. The grille really has a retro look so its more about paying homage to the Toyota brand than being a poser.
    3. Real truck guys KNOW if you have a Pro, even outside of just the grille. And if they know about the Pro, they know these grilles sell like hotcakes.
    4. Haters gonna hate.
    5. Potatoes gonna potate.

Hey, they're ALL modified SR5's anyway. You just have a blank canvas to do what you want. I think everyone who mods their TRD (pros) are just wasteful lol

    1. It doesn't say "Pro" on the grill so this isn't like slapping an AMG badge on a base Mercedes and
    2. It's your truck so screw other people and do what you want

Around here there are more Pro grilles on non-Pro Tacomas than you can shake a stick at. It's got to be the most common first mod Tacoma owners do. I don't see it as a poser move. It's just a nicer looking grille that not only gets rid of the hideous cheese grater (on the TRD's) but also gives the truck a better profile, and still has the OEM look to it. And more in line with the "blacked out" and less chrome look which is in style now. Not only does the stock grille (SR5 not as bad as the cheese grater) not look good, but also makes it look like something is missing up front....especially with the Leno chin sticking out the way it does. I see it as "correcting" a manufacturer design miss. I mean, is there anyone who really likes the standard grilles on the TRD's? SR5's are better (and I'd of probably kept mine stock if it had an SR5 grille), but still not as fitting for the look of the truck as the Pro grille.

Go for it. at $150 to $200 bucks, it's a relatively cheap upgrade that really changes the appearance for the better. And don't over spend on a OEM Pro unless you really want OEM. The Faux-Pros give the same look at a greatly reduced cost, and only a few who would even know the differences will ever get a close enough look to see the differences.

(And yes, that's a Pro skid on mine. Didn't want it, but it was on the truck I got a good deal on, so it's there for now. Would have much preferred the factory tinfoil skid so I could have replaced it with steel. The pro skid doesn't offer very much more in way of protection than the OEM sheet metal does, IMO.)

Ha! The grill is the ONLY thing I’d want off of a Pro...

2nd Gen, but I did it. On a 2nd gen the Pro grill gave me more room for my Winch controller and Supercharger coolant pump though. So it wasn’t purely aesthetic.

I might as well chime in.
As a pro owner who bought a pro simply because I really liked the combination of features, I’m not in the least bit offended or judgmental.
In fact, I was going to put one on the taco I traded for the pro
...besides, Toyota calls it “the heritage grille” anyway, not the pro grille. Enjoy!
