I'm surprised you didn't 'miss' that one.

In all seriousness, there's a reason that people say that holding happens on every call, and the refs just call the blatant ones. But, they miss a lot of blatant ones as well. Against everybody, though I'm sure you won't believe it because only the Patriots benefit from bad play calling.
Unless you're the Steelers, in which case you benefit from it but still lose the game. :stirthepot:

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
As a Steelers fan... We're quiet because it's midweek. And it seems we have that pit of misery thing (again it's named work) to deal with.

That said, feel free to rag on the Steelers. Like 13-3 was a terrible (regular) season? I'll refrain from mentioning how many Lombardi's are on display in Pittsburgh.

I'm a Steelers fan for life. Win or lose. That said, I'd really like to see the Vikings play the Superbowl at home.

Actually there is a new feature, to the right side just above where it says like, multi-quote, and quote there are two arrows pointing left and right. If you click the left arrow it takes you to that users previous post in this thread, the right arrow will take you to their next post in this thread. Its sort of new but really simple

The Steelers of the post-merger (modern) era are one of the most successful NFL franchises. Pittsburgh has won more Super Bowl titles (6) and both played in (16) and hosted more conference championship games (11) than any other NFL team. The Steelers have won 8 AFC championships, tied with the Denver Broncos, but behind the New England Patriots' record 9 AFC championships. The Steelers share the record for second most Super Bowl appearances with the Broncos, and Dallas Cowboys (8).

    3 SBs in the 70s
    1 SB in the 80's
    2 SBs in the 2000's

Well that's two of them; the others are from when everything on wheels still had carburetors.

True, but 4 of your 6 SB's came before the Salary cap era, back when a team could just stockpile talent as long as they had money to burn. During the era of designed parity they've been much less competitive. :notsure:

Edit- Competitive isn't the right word; they've still been a solid team. Let's go with Dominant instead.

Do you have any research to support that statement? Those 70's teams were mostly drafted, and not bought

you realize there is a button on the bottom of each post that allows me to see your last post? And nice, is that because your team was already out and you had nothing to root for?

Sure, the Salary cap era started in 1994, and the original "Steel Curtain" era ended 14 years before that. It became much more difficult for everybody to keep a team together after the Cap and free agency changes.

Prior to 1992, the NFL had what was called 'plan b' free agency, which allowed a team's owners/managers to keep 37 of their players (typically the best ones, obviously) with the right to first refusal. Combine that with a lack of a salary cap and the team that drafted a player was usually able to keep them around for as long as they wanted. This kept talent from going elsewhere once their draft contracts had expired, and it's why you used to see extended runs from a team that you don't see that often in the post-salary cap era. The Packers of the 60's, Steelers of the 70's, Redskins of the 80's and the Cowboys of the early 90's all had extended runs with what was basically the same team, with only minor changes in key player lineups from year to year.

So the Steel curtain was drafted at first, but they were able to keep the players around long enough to build a winning team through a combination of restrictive free agency and "Sky's the limit" spending rules. :notsure:

Edit- Interestingly, it's also part of the reason for the Steeler's 'decade of decline' in the 80's: The same rules that benefitted them in the 70's worked against them in the 80's, since talented players were stuck with the teams that drafted them in the first place, they couldn't easily be lured away by more $$ to play for Pittsburgh to make up for some bad/unlucky draft picks, retirements, etc. that Pittsburgh was dealing with at the time. So rather than cycle players in and out to stay competive, they had to basically start from scratch and rebuild a team from nothing, which they weren't really able to do until the Chin showed up with a good game plan.

I think we can agree that the salary cap brought the parity it was designed to bring, but these stats do NOT indicate an un-competetive franchise:

    Year Record Division
    2017 13-3-0 1st -- AFC North
    2016 11-5-0 1st -- AFC North
    2015 10-6-0 2nd -- AFC North
    2014 11-5-0 1st -- AFC North
    2013 8-8-0 2nd -- AFC North
    2012 8-8-0 3rd -- AFC North
    2011 12-4-0 2nd -- AFC North
    2010 12-4-0 1st -- AFC North
    2009 9-7-0 3rd -- AFC North
    2008 12-4-0 1st -- AFC North
    2007 10-6-0 1st -- AFC North
    2006 8-8-0 T3rd -- AFC North

Yea, it shows a team that can't play in the playoffs.

@CaptAmerica might not ever see a playoff win with Lewis coaching, but at the end of the day he has one less trophy to show for than Tomlin does even though Tomlin has a lot more appearances.

Time for a new sideline staff.

I didn't say that the Steelers weren't competitive. I said that they weren't AS competitive. And then I went back and edited it to dominant, since they're still a solid team.

    To prove my point:

    2017 - Lost Divisional
    2016 - Lost Conference
    2015 - Lost Divisional
    2014 - Lost Wild Card
    2013 - Did not qualify
    2012 - Did not qualify
    2011 - Lost Wild Card
    2010 - Lost Super Bowl
    2009 - Did Not Qualify
    2008 - Won Super Bowl
    2007 - Lost Wild Card
    2006 - Did Not Qualify
    2005 - Won Super Bowl
    2004 - Lost Conference
    2003 - Did not Qualify
    2002 - Lost Divisional
    2001 - Lost Conference
    2000 - Did Not Qualify
    1999 - Did Not Qualify
    1998 - Did Not Qualify
    1997 - Lost Conference
    1996 - Lost Divisional
    1995 - Lost Super Bowl
    1994 - Lost Conference

    Competitive, but not dominant. :notsure:

Steelers fans only read what they want to read. If it's not complimenting their team, it's not true.
