Yes, all 4 tires are the same. I think what Tech Support was saying is that what I choose to enter into the program cannot be more than 10% different than actual. But more to your point, I realize there are people running 35" tires, with NO Hypertech unit - and not having issues. So I'm not sure any monkeying around with the Hypertech is going to make a difference. I believe the problem's solution resides somewhere else, not in the Speedometer calibration. I could be wrong, just what I'm thinking now.

 

If you got the errors without the hypertech then it is definately NOT the problem.

 

I agree wit you and can only imagine how frustrating the whole situation is. I think that it is sensor related. I looked into the sensors a little further and they are magnetic triggered. So the problem could be in the hub itself if it returns as a code to the front. They should not have had to pull the axles out of the hubs to get the front diff out to install the gears, but everybody does things different.

 

Yeah - the shop said they did not touch the hubs. But thank you, that's good info. Next stop will be the dealership I guess. I can envision being told that Toyota won't warranty anything with this much modification. Maybe just need to find the right dealership, someone who's done dealer modifications to stock trucks like this.

FWIW - the Blind Spot Monitor (which I normally just leave off), is now not working. I turned it on and now get an error there too. smh .... ugh

 

Hypertech's statement of no more than 10% would have me completely out of whack then.

I'm more than 12% increase: 265/65/17 to 35/12.5/18 This reads 14+% but that's on a 35.03 diameter.

I'm confident this is NOT related to the Hypertech module. Your troubleshooting is elsewhere in the truck.

 

The blind spot monitor needs to be reprogrammed. That has happened to a bunch of guys that have lifted their trucks. This is not a big deal. The rest of it is up in the air. As for the warranty end of it I doubt that any of it will be covered. Now with that being said honesty is your best policy. I work for a dealership service dept and I will tell you that from my experience we are much more willing to help someone that tells us everything than those that chose to lie. It is much easier when we know up front what has been done to the vehicle. Wish i could help some more.

Agreed on the honesty. At this point I’m first trying to find to root cause of the problems, and then can choose of course of correction.

 

It was the right front sensor that was giving a code. They replaced the sensor. Now the shop is saying it’s ‘probably’ the right front wheel hub assembly. I replied asking how can we confirm this, rather than guessing. Again, need to find and confirm the problem before suggestions on solutions.

 

If you can get the exact codes I can check alldata for you and see what the diagnostics for said codes would be.

 

I would ask if they needed to hammer the axles out of the hub, and did the use a Toyota sensor or an aftermarket one. We have not had much luck with aftermarket sensors in Toyota and Honda vehicles.

Ok, so here's the latest. I'm all fixed and ready to roll.

The 6" BDS lift kit, with 2.5" Adjustable Fox Coilovers is amazing. Love the stance and adjustability. The 35" Nitto Ridge Grapplers on KMC XD128 Machete's looks perfect and ride quality is what I'd expect. Aggressive, not overly noisy, etc. The Nitro 4.88's brings life back into the pooch and a bit more drivability. Still, I find myself in 5th on the freeway, it's honestly tough for the rig to hold 6th - I'm sure some of that is attributed to some rolling resistance on the Ridge Graps, but so be it. I'm sure an AT tire, more meant for concrete would help. What can I say, it's all trade offs.

The problem the truck had was found in the right front Hub Assembly. Something happened to the ABS system in there when the shop put in the new Knuckles. Apparently a seal failed somewhere in the bearing and Hub, so that the ABS sensor could no longer get a reading. They checked and replaced the sensor twice, checked the wire, and just by troubleshooting found it to be the Hub Assembly. The shop eventually ate the cost of installing a new Hub Assembly and everything is now working great. Problem is that when the ABS system is sending out an error code, the truck essentially goes into a failsafe limp mode, for lack of a better explanation. ABS/VSC lights, no Cruise Control and most annoyingly, NO 4WD engagement.

Once the hub assembly was replaced, all good. Everything works like new. I'm laughing only because it took almost 2 months to get through this and figure it all out. I"m hoping that my experience helps others and I'm happy to answer any other questions. Oh, also, when I was driving home from the shop, I was getting this scrapping sound, at weird times - also from the right front. Once I got home, I pulled of the right front wheel to inspect and was just the brake dust shield running against the rotor. Bent it back and voila.

And go figure, once you get a 6" lift on 35" tires, the old jack needs a little bit of help to git-er up. Oh yeah, totally safe. :-Q
