I am looking at getting a 2.5" lift from the Headstrong Offroad 885 Bilstein kit. I am also planning on getting the TRD SEMA wheels (17"). I was pretty sold on the 275/70/17 BFG KO2s until I noticed that that only came with an E-rating. I'd prefer a C-rated tire, which led me into looking at the 255/75/17. Does anyone run these, have pics, or recommendations?

Anyone run the E-rated BFG? I have a 4.0, but I'm not trying to make it work any harder than it has to.

Interested in some input. Thanks in advance.

    Consider the 34 x 10.5 x 17 KO2. 255s are pizza cutters. I ran the 275s and they are a stiff ride.

Good observation. IMO 275s are not that great when you consider you have a much heavier tire than the 265/70R17 and only get 0.25" more ground clearance, while also having likely rubbing issues. Running the 255s will help avoid the rubbing and resolve the weight issue as they weigh the same as the 265/70R17 C-load KO2s, while still gaining you the larger tire look with the little extra ground clearance. At 10mm thinner they are less than 1/2" narrower than the stock 265s. Good choice on the wheels too as they are relatively light to help keep rotational weight to a minimum.

That is quite a bit larger than the 255, which is an actual 32" tire (vs the 265/70R17 being a 31.5").

I run the c rated 255/75 Cooper At3. I got them for really cheap after considering the STMaxx tires. I ran e rated KO's before and these grip way better and ride wayyy smoother. Haven't done too much offroad (going Saturday), but I suspect they'll be fine. Picture for reference. [IMG]

Thanks for the input, I'm a fellow Pirate as well. Do you happen to have any pictures of a side profile or your truck from the front? I'm concerned the tires will look too skinny once I add a 2.5" lift. What lift are you running? What steered you away from the STMaxx tires?

@crashnburn80 I'm pretty new to wheel/ tire modifications. I know the TRD SEMA wheels are 17"x7", would a wider wheel be better for the 255/75/17? I feel like they will look extremely narrow.

@teamfast Do you have any rubbing issues with that tire? I want to stay away from trimming if possible. I am doing a 2.5" lift with LR UCAs.

Slight rubbing on the mudflaps. With those UCAs you should be good too. Mine ribs at full lock. Lightly.

The 34s sit at 33" when all mounted up.

Most the Toyota wheels are 7.5" wide, which is pretty ideal for this tire size IMO. Keep in mind that if you air down for off road use the narrower wheel will hold the bead better. Also the .5" wheel difference will be split across the wheel, so it will only appear 1/4" different on the outside, and being a well designed factory part Toyota has accounted for this by adding a little more offset on the TRD SEMA wheel to push it out more. The tires are going to be 255mm wide regardless of the wheel, it is just they will be pulled in slightly more at the bead. Whether or not the 0.4" narrower tire looks too narrow is up to your taste. From a numbers standpoint it makes good sense.

@crashnburn80 Thanks for the clarifications! I think I am going to end up pulling the trigger on the TRD SEMAs with the 255/75/17 tires. I found pretty good pricing on Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs in that size that seem to have good reviews online and in the forum. I am looking for a more aggressive AT, so those should work well. They are also C-load, so the lighter tire and smaller surface area shouldn't affect my mpg too much.

Go pirates! I'm running like 2.5" lift with 5100's. I think they look fine. I didn't end up with STMaxx bc the at3's were a couple hundo cheaper and quite a bit lighter. Was mainly going for increased drivability/mpg, and < road noise. [IMG]

Have you looked at the Cooper AT/3 275/70/17. They come in a C-rated. I will be swapping out the e-rated 275/70/17 ko2 for these as I have heard they are lighter and drive smoother due to the ply rating.

Thats what I run on mine. They ride nice but getting them balanced correctly has proved to be a challenge. Not sure if its just my setup or what. Took the tire shop a couple of tries to get the shake to go away.

Hi. Can you give me a quick update on these tires? I'm looking to get these possibly. Mostly city driving but like hitting easy to medium trails about 5 times a year.

I’m running 255/75/17 bfg MT love the look hate the rod noise but they were free to me. I’m at 2.5 lift up front 1.5 rear no rubbing or trimming even compressed. Will get this size again with a AT.
