I doubt it would make that kind of power. Probably closer to what the explorer is making, 280/310.

    Gah! That's hideous.
But I bet Hilux owners don't get the blinding hood glare, and can maybe even see the 5 ft in front of their trucks :boink:

2.3l in the explorer is rated at 19/27/22 mpg in FWD and 18/25/21 in AWD. Fuelly users don't seem to be achieving quite that:

This was Toyota's reasoning for avoiding FI. They just didn't see the numbers in real life testing scenarios. Good to see some real sources!

"Can't stand how the 3rd Gen looks....it has become bloated and machismo, without much substance underneath. Payloads have become laughable in recent years"

I couldn't agree with this more. I was trading down from an F150 earlier this year, looking to buy a mid-size truck. I wanted the most capable hauler in the class since I was coming from a full size and used the bed regularly for heavy stuff.

I started my search with the Tacoma. I think it was probably due to the tough looks, fake hood scoop, ride height etc, so I just assumed it was the most capable mid-size based off the tough guy looks.

After some research, I realized it was virtually the worst truck in its class in terms of payload and performance. It can climb rocks though! But I don't need that.

For my needs, I bought the Ridgeline. 500 lbs more payload in similar 4x4 crew cab configuration than the Tacoma. Wider more usable bed than the Colorado and Taco.

Smoother, quicker, more responsive V6 and quick shifting transmission too.

Part of me is drawn to the hood scoop and tough hood I guess, but in the end I needed the capability that the Tacoma couldn't offer. One nice thing about the lower wussy Ridgeline hood though is that it's easy to access. In the end I guess, more function over form.

You nailed it haha. I've started going to s5 and ect for driving interstate in the sierras. Or s4 on hwy's like 50 and 89. It's still screaming rpm's when I jam on it, but the shifting is at least a little more predictable and less frequent.

I'm interested in test driving the ranger when it comes out. Or perhaps getting one at work...

But CRAWL CONTROL! Next time a dump truck load of sand jumps in front of your Ridgeline and your life depends on driving over it, then you'll be kicking yourself. You just wait.

Wait... did a Ridgeline owner just make an account on a Tacoma forum to comment on a Ranger thread?

Except when you hit the throttle the truck downshifts 3 times, then you got 3rd gen problems.

Good thing he used to own an F150 though! Wait no, that still doesn't make sense.

I have the weight tickets to prove the weight ;)

Military move, have to weigh in empty and weigh in full at each destination to get paid.

As far as the drive, you'll just have to take my word for it, the thing was a dog, a slow, miserable dog that required a lot of shifting on hill and a lot of revving to maintain speeds above 65

My friend owns one. Dynos well over 300 at the wheels stock. Decent mileage too.

Yes! This is general auto right? I'm interested in this Ranger just as much as anyone. I've lurked on this forum forever, always been a Tacoma fan, again just didn't fit my needs this time around. The Ridgeline forums are lame and quiet. Too many rational, sensible, working people to comment on a forum at 3:45pm on a Tuesday.

I've got no problem with downshifts as long as they happen when they're supposed to and upshift after the gear is no longer needed.
