Ok I just asked for the letter of denial. once I get it and read it I will post it. can't imagine it can say "reason of denial being snow".

I understand why some are getting frustrated now...

    Yeah.
At first you said you don't beat on the truck, and now you say you have broken stuff offroading. So now there are holes in your story. It appears that your truck was a gift from your parents, either when you got your license or graduated HS. You don't show any signs of knowing much about vehicles. My bet is that you beat on the truck hard, were having fun in the snow and busted it again. And your dad probably knows this or suspects this as well.

That said, I don't know the truth and I'm not here to bash you -- you seem like an alright kid and hopefully you will learn something from this, whether it's how to fight for what is right or accepting the consequences of your actions. I do question whether the original transmission was even replaced.

Reading all of this thread once again, if OP is telling the truth then seems like a very likely possibility. :fingerscrossed: the new and old transmissions Serial numbers were well recorded and this is the case of an old transmission getting re-installed.

thats what I'm sure everyone on here is thinking and thats what I get a lot. I used to beat on this truck hard and I know a little bit about how things work. I did a clutch replacement in my 93 4runner in my driveway last year and runs great still. but yes I would wheel it hard but I broke things and I had to pay for new things and learned from those things. but this first trans failure came out of the blue and so did this second failure. I assume that toyota is just done with me and this truck because they assume I beat on it and am expecting a new trans. should have gotten rid of the truck the first trans issue .

I emailed the dealer in NC about the details of the first failure and they never got back to. corporate toyota told us that they tried getting the NC dealer to pay for the second failure as well which says something there.

the truck was given to me. but that being said I put about 12k into it myself and I'm a huge toyota fan or was

How bout a second opinion at an independant transmission shop ?
99 % of the time a " FREE " test drive is all an expierienced technician needs to figure out what the problem is .
If you have to pay for a computer scan from an independant shop , its still going to be cheaper than a new trans from the dealership .
Keep in mind Toyota techs do not fix transmissions . They replace with new and you pay the price if you are being denied .
If Toyota refuses to cover the trans , its going to be 50% cheaper at an independant shop with the option of a 3 year warranty

I never said anything that was not true during this thread btw. just left details out that technically aren't relevant.

    Yeah.
I would definitely go this route if I were you. The truck is still relatively young, and it sounds like it just needs a repair, not a full replacement.

Rule of thumb I've used on this forum is error on the side of WAY TOO MUCH information about an issue you're having and where your truck sits as far as modifications, driving habits, and maintenance. Chances it has already happened to someone else and the more information you give the quicker the forum can narrow down the issue.

I am interested in a proper diagnostic and a private shop has no reason to lie or try cheating the system like some dealerships we have seen

    Yeah.
Not saying you did, but you danced around how you have treated the truck in the past and gave the impression that the truck was never driven hard at all (not saying abused, but you did break stuff). It actually is very relevant, even if the failure did not occur during one of those times you were driving it hard.

As @gearcruncher says, the dealer techs are not transmission guys. They know something is wrong, but they won't be able to properly diagnose it. If you can't get Toyota to budge by pressing them harder (which I think you should do), get it properly diagnosed and go from there. I still have a hard time believing you would get the EXACT same failure just 2K later if they did actually replace the transmission. This whole thing smells fishy.

Truck was a daily for me, it went on a trail ride every so often, saw mud rarely and never did much hill climbing ever. during the second trans it never saw actual dirt/mud meaning wheeling. only snow and Nothing done by me as the only driver that I think anyone would consider abuse. 2k miles in 2.5-3 weeks could be considered a lot and most of it was long distance.

    Yeah.
So you used to beat on it hard, while it had the first transmission in it? If so, the first failure is not really out of the blue. But forget that for now. What documentation do you have showing the actual work that was done at the NC dealer? Could it be that they just replaced that one part you mentioned and did not actually do the transmission replacement?

Driving many miles in a short period of time isn't going to hurt the transmission unless they didn't do the work properly. I get that the truck is now in NJ, but maybe you need to go deal with the NC dealer that did the work.

Any idea if transmissions have serial #'s? Maybe have paperwork of the serial # that was taken out and the one that was put in?

From what it sounds like you have done due diligence and both dealers and corporate are not willing to help you, time to lawyer up.

This is the crux of the issue right here. You realized it yourself above. Put them on the spot and don't give up until you get an answer. This is what your next phone call with corporate should sound like...

You - Hi, so your finale answer is you're denying my claim because of snow and I abused it, correct?

Toyota - Yes sir this is correct. The fault is yours.

You - Then why did you ever try to get the NC dealership to replace it?
