I've got three of their pads. One is a Static V and the other two are Static V-luxe insulated pads. I got the first to see how they fared. Impressed with them to say the least. If you look on their ebay store you may be able to pick up one at around 50% their listed price if a "make an offer" is posted in the ad. I got both of the V-luxe insulated pads at just about half off. I had a response ready to post but closed the tab. So in a nutshell here are the two videos I made about a year ago after testing the pad in ~30-40 degree temps.

    Comparision video:

    Easy and cheap inflation method:

There are good stuff sacks on the market now that also double as an inflation bag. I've not yet bought one of them but they are out there.

Keep a 21” in all cars and camping trailer and a 15” for the rucksack.

Static V-Lux stays home, then my wife stays home, she refuses to go without it.

Oh yeah. The camper doesn't have great insulation but it is far better than a ground tent. The insulated pads make a big difference.

I don't think a truck bed would make you any warmer than a ground tent other than being a better wind-block. The insulation layers are what matter.

It is the same when people say "my RTT is so much warmer than my ground tent ever was!", and then neglect the fact that they were sleeping on an air mattress with zero insulation value before moving to open cell foam in a RTT.

I sleep on an Exped Megamat 10 when car camping, with an R Value of 9.5. It is as good or better than any other option for the comfort/size/insulation value. I sure as hell am never cold from the bottom side!

I read your write up on the Malamoo tent, great read!

Have you had a chance to use it in the rain?

A pop-up camper offers far greater insulation than an RTT. It still gets chilly. Nothing like my flippac though. That was COLD. The flippac, like an RTT, is just a tent raised up off the ground.

The vestibule's floor isnt fully attached to the tent walls, so if it rains and there's runoff, it can run up the vestibule floor and wet anything that's there.

    I hope that makes sense.

    EDIT -

    Here is a pic:

but then the problem can be somewhat solved if you just setup the tent with the doorway facing downhill

Not sure if it's been discussed before, but I use a folding cot/tent from Cabelas for my overnight trips. It's stupid portable, takes a couple of seconds to setup/breakdown and is pretty comfortable. Lots of pockets, vents, and 365 degree optional views. Got mine off of CL last year for half the price of new, and has been a great investment. They make them in single and double versions.

I forgot they make them too. Yeah I could never go back to a regular ground tent again after using something like the cot-tent. I did a quick overnight this past weekend, and I pulled up to my spot late in the night. Didn't even sweat it, pulled the tent from the bag and popped it up. Had the fire going a couple minutes thereafter. lol

Been giving my buddies hell lately.

I’m set up and chilling by the time they get their RTTs halfway setup.
