Hopefully they'll be able to keep the doors latched on the ranger. I know of 2 F150's less than a year old who have spent a combined total of 10 weeks at the dealer because the doors randomly fly open. One of which has had lemon law/buyback paperwork filed. Obviously everyone has q/c issues, it might be best to wait till this truck lands before making too many comparisons on quality.

The Hilux has way higher payload ratings than Tacoma as well. I don't think the U.S. ranger will have payload like the Aussie version does

No way. I have owned the 4.3 manual. It would outrun the 2.3 easy

You’ve owned both a 4.3L GM and 2.3L Ecoboost Ford truck? Btw I said perform, not out run. Ecoboost trucks are known for their great low end which gets them off the line with a load much faster than more traditional V6 or V8 engine options. It’ll be interesting to see but it’s not crazy to expect that the 2.3L Ecoboost will post impressive real world testing against the V6 engines in the other mid sized trucks similar to how the 2.7 L Ecoboost compares very favoray against the 5.3L GM engine in full sized trucks.

I disagree. That 4.3 In a 95 s10 with possi rear end would burn. I would hit it so hard i had to be careful of the backend hopping. Your opionon, no biggie.

The 4.3 L engine I’m talking about has nothing to do with the version made in 1995. The 4.3 L LV3 V6 engine is the entry level engine in the Chevy full sized trucks. It puts out about 305 ft lbs of torque and I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2.3 L Ecoboost engine tuned for the Ranger ends up just a little higher than that.

I’m talking about currently available and manufactured engines. I’m sure in 1995 maybe the story was different but so were the trucks.

How many people here think if this truck has more than 300 HP and ft lbs of torque with more than 7000 lbs of towing capacity that the third gen forum will implode with upset/defensive third gen owners? :p

I remember when the Colorado was announced and that was when the third gen wasn’t even out yet. It caused quite a commotion, of course it was a minority of owners but it happened. I expect the same when the Ranger specs are announced especially if they are dominant or if the truck is well reviewed. Especially actually if it’s well reviewed.

I’ve had 1500 pounds of tile and supplies in the bed of my reg cab base, handled no problem. May be because the rear axle is over the spring and the add a leaf helped. But those with spring over axle seem like they don’t hold as well under load.

I just hope it has more headroom.
A little more rear legroom would be nice too.

The Aussie Ranger is kick ass. However, it's a 3.2 diesel with a 6 speed either manual or auto. America is getting an unproven 10-speed auto with yet another variant of the 2.3 ecoboost. Hopefully they put the right head gaskets covers on it unlike the Mustang or Focus RS 2.3s... The frame is the same and the body with a some minor changes will be solid. The powertrain...huge question mark.

The 3rd gen didn't exactly set the bar very high.

Ford just needs to manage to make a truck that doesn't howl down the highway and rattle thud to a stop. Literally a gas cap holder puts it ahead of the Tacoma.

Most new Fords do not have gas caps.

Though to be honest the capless system is amazing in the winter.

I would encourage everyone talking smack on the ecoboost 4 banger to go a and drive the Focus RS with the same engine and then tell me it doesn't have any power.

Ha this whole thread makes me want to laugh, I guess I still see mine as a bloated 1/4 ton. Basically a reliable SUV with box on it, light duty light payload and economy. That's what they all kinda are, if I needed more, I'd be up in the full size 3/4 ton Cummins not down here splitting hairs with the ridgeline on payload. What makes this Ranger kinda interesting is it's global provenance, things gonna get more interesting and competitive
