I'm having a difficult time finding any real world feedback about using heavy duty OME dakar leaf springs as opposed to mediums on a 2.7 regular cab. I have a fwc on the back (675lbs empty) but I also plan on running airbags to pick up the weight, so my thoughts are medium springs should be fine? Especially with such a light truck. Curious on how poor of a ride quality and suspension flex it'll be without the camper on if I go ahead with the heavys. Thanks!

Have you discussed with a vendor who knows their stuff?

Have you considered having a custom leaf pack made for your specific application?

BTW, I'm not sure the 2.7 has anything to do with it. There's not too much overall wt difference, and what there is is up front.

@TYetti has dakars on his 2.7, but his is an access cab, and loaded down with expo gear.. Maybe he can chime in as to the unloaded ride quality.

I thought the mediums were a new product. @HeadStrong Off-Road would know.

I think you are going to outdo your engine before you are going to need airbags. Dakars would help from sagging but you do know Dakars give you 2.75'' of lift right?

Yes I have but they as well didn't have any experience with a 2.7. Going with heavy springs (886 I believe) in the front to compensate for the winch and second battery. I've been considering custom springs but with airbags OME springs seem like they will work fine

Yea planning on a small lift. Engine seems perfect for this setup. Getting 18mpg mixed driving with gear loaded in the camper. Have had zero engine temp change as well

I've got the heavy dakars the access cab isn't much heavier than the reg cab the rear is pretty much the same across the board. I have a shackle flip and well. On the highway my truck rides nicer than my Acura rsx type S but I do have kings lol with the tires are 15-20psi in the dirt it's smooth as butter. I do have a swing out bumper with my high lift and 35 on the back but the bumper empty weighs less than the stock unit with tow package. I also had a tool box permanently mounted. Total truck weight is around 5200

According to toyota, the 2.7 AC 4x4 is about 300lbs heavier than a RC 4x4. My 4 leaf TSB springs put me at 23" hub to fender, which is what many other members get after the addition of an aal.

Great to hear! I’ll definitely have some extra weight in the back as well but looks like I’ll go with the heavys. Btw was looking at the build awesome truck!

Thanks great to see the numbers! I’ll have to measure where I’m at stock with the squat from the camper. Hopefully heavys will keep it up with the front, though I think new airbags will be in the foreseeable future.

I had the dakars in my old 08’ taco 2.7 5 spd. Thats the main reason i put them in my new taco. CS047R i think is the part number.
