I won't get into how much our director is disliked... I'll just say "I plead the 5th". ;-)

 

Jut had one here that was being groomed for SES and was months away from moving into the slot have a melt down because it came out that he kept brushing sexual harassment about his subordinates under the rug. Investigation led to his 13 getting ripped and chucked to the curb, and losing his promotion and now "it's everyone else fault." The shop Christmas party was awesome.

 

This new Secretary of the VA is two thumbs-up. Really listened to us and is working hard to implement the suggestions made by the people who do and fix everything that's seven kinds of fucked up. I have a friend in Interior - he's really hating life. Others are in IRS and Treasury, and all they can complain about is "who changes the tax code two weeks before the new programming has to be in effect?!?!"

It seems the VA got lucky this go around.

 

Meanwhile I am auditing payments that were hosed six ways to Sunday from the 1990s... and fixing the glitches. The 14k cases my team is working now is stitastically likely to result in a retroactive payment to the individual.... can't wait for the other 17k to rear their ugly head. It's going to be a political nightmare...

 

we had an "unofficial" survey like that come out my second duty station. Later they talked about the results. I got some dirty looks when I said if you ask for our honest opinion dont get mad at us when you read what is being said.

 

Yup, when you ask your subordinates for the truth and it hurts, then you gotta suck it up and get to work fixing it. Sadly the usual result is reindeer games and finding more ways to screw everyone below them.

TexVets did my claim. Then Audie Murphy lied about some medical appointments I didn't have (and have travel vouchers that prove I wasn't even in Texas) so my award was screwed up for a year. Finally got it fixed, but they did it as a new claim and not fixing the old one tied to my retirement date. Audie Murphy denied the lie...but couldn't provide any records of where I was actually seen by a doctor, either.

In that whole process you could tell who the veterans were, and who was there collecting a check.

 

Like I said, reindeer games. I loved my last supervisor, he would tell everyone that if he was fucking up that he demanded to know about it and would genuinely work to resolve the issue. Put everyone in for awards and when you went above he'd write a letter into your file singing your praises. Some didn't like his "head straight at them" attitude but for me it was perfect as you could tell he was the genuine article. I wish I had started my career with him so I'd know what real leadership was about instead of all the mental midgets that Uncle Sugar threw in my way. Once had a supervisor - senior NCO = that couldn't read. Not didn't care to, or didn't set aside time to, flat out couldn't read. Complete waste of space.

 

I try not to complain too much. I'm a GS11-2 with telework 4d/wk, ans I am well positioned for my 12 when I am eligible in May... and still BU employee.

I traded my leadership hat for my DD214 in 2008.

 

So you were granted and went for an earlier effective date based on your retirement date?

 

Yes, because everything they granted was on my initial claim. They stated that in the appointment they held (without me) that I was observed and granted a 0% award. I received a different award when I was actually seen by a doctor a year later. They paid me based on that second date, not my retirement date. Been in appeals since 2012.

Thats fucking slow mine was rolling down hill before it even came close to upper level folks with in 45 minutes.... My Regional VP didn't like me saying he had such a bad case of Cranial Rectosis he wont see the light of day for 50 years....
