Kinda off topic, but my sales guy told me I didn't have electric sliding rear glass (probably because the 2016 didn't) I was kinda disappointed but really didn't care because I would seldom use it. My wife found the button for it the next morning. Sales guys have NO idea what they are selling, their job is to sell, simple as that.

If you're just towing a small boat short distances on the weekend, buy a bolt on hitch and plug-n-play harness and install yourself. They'll be plenty for what you need.
Also, do NOT let uhaul touch your truck. Fucking butchers...

Absolutely correct, I cannot imagine them added a trans cooler to a manual.

Indeed. I played this game with my truck as well. They took it back and found me one with the tow package i would advise you to do the same. My sales guy was decent but had zero knowledge of tow packages and whats included.

I just got a 2009 4x4 4cyl Manual Taco, that does not have a tow hitch. He gave me an attachable uhaul hitch that I will bolt on. planning on towing a small aluminum boat with a little whizz motor. based on my truck, it sounds like I need to keep in set up under 3500 lbs, is that right?

You are ok. A lot of the towing weight restrictions depends on the transmission. The factory tow package for automatics transmissions includes an external "transmission fluid" cooler. You have a manual, you don't have a real transmission fluid temp issue (I believe you are running 75 - 90 gear oil). You do have a clutch concern, but that depends on your clutching skills.

lol, My sales guy literally told me "I don't really know much about these" and I went "Hah! Cool, I'll figure it out!" Which may explain why they didn't take out any of the extras, like the bed mat, after I negotiated down!

Now going back to the service dept. 4-5 times to show them one thing is another story...

Lol my sales guy told me the “multi terrain select” makes it so the truck let’s pressure off the coils to make a smoother ride over varying terrain. I literally told him that’s not what it does and that I’ll be going to a more knowledgable dealership for my purchase.

Sorry my friend. That sucks that you got took. However the truck will suit your needs fine so don't be too upset. Now that you have found TW you will be much better forewarned and forearmed the next time you go deal with stealership douche-bags.

Thanks for finding this. I was 99% sure I had the tow package, but on a VIN search, it didn't show up. It all makes sense now

OP, where do you live? If you're in the PNW, I have a hitch you can have. I replaced my bumper and hitch with a RCI hidden hitch bumper.

You can also get a bumper with a built in hitch. Check out RCI, Mobtown and CBI.

Would just need to add wiring.

So just to confirm, a 4 cylinder access cab 4x4 auto that did not come with a tow package, can have an after market receiver (and wire harness) added and can tow a maximum of 3500? If you added a transmission cooler, oil cooler, and upgraded alternator (assuming similar parts to OEM tow package), that would bump it up to 6500?

I don't think you can make that assumption. Its been awhile since I seriously Truck shopped (2014); I remember a "V6 Tow Package" no factory Toyota "Tow Package" on a 4 cyl.

I haven’t check the website for specifics, but I would say there is now way on earth you should tow 6,500 with the 4. 6500 is about the max for a v6 towing package equipped .
