I know Matt has offered refunds to others who are unhappy. If you are unhappy, I would suggest just request a refund before you involve PayPal. If you don't want a refund, get really patient.

To each his own but personally after having his tune(1.02a) 91 oct. and knowing this guy is continuing his dedication to refining these tunes continually I couldn't imagine getting a refund or not having this tune. Hopefully with patience you will get it all worked out and enjoy what we all are experiencing....

thing is, like the rest of us you aren't happy with the way it runs stock or you wouldn't be 487 pages into this post. Since Matt is the only game in town, stick around, you can be the test pilot for '18.

It's simply an issue of expectations. People today expect everything to be COTS immediate gratification solutions. This is not what that is. Before you throw down $800 you need to understand what you are getting into. It took me till Nov. to pony up and I'm glad I did.

THIS RIGHT HERE ^^^ Well said, Sir.

Now just imagine what happens when Mat releases a new version. Emails with tune files attached must be sent to EVERYONE . It's bananas.
Where's mine? Have you sent it yet? Did you get my email? How about the six PMs I sent? Has anyone heard from Mat? Is hie email up? What about the website? Which email do I use?

Guys, it literally takes hours (and sometimes days) to get it done. Fair warning.

Unless some of you guys calm down (a LOT), you're going to have a bad experience (in YOUR mind). And, it fucks over ppl who have legit issues on release day - they get drowned out in the crossfire. Ask me how I know. Yes, I've been guilty of doing the same thing in the beginning, but have learned how this dance goes.

Interesting how that works. Imagine dealing with that, plus trying to sort through off topic bs to get your issue addressed. Glad you understand now, enjoy the tune :) .

every single software development project in history has gone through this. most just aren't on a public forum.

EDIT: in case any mods are looking at me funny, yes it's NOT a public forum, but a privately owned forum with [currently] open registration. and now it's time for a drink.

Thanks for the help @Glenn_R & @Local_Smokey15. Got what I needed & sent off to @OVTune . I know he's out & limited access, but I'm patient so no worries.

Don’t do the dispute. Matt is busy but will get back to you. I ordered the OVTune but actually ended up returning it because I wanted to regear to 4.88 before the tune. I asked for a refund and it took about 4-5 days. I did have to send a couple emails to remind him but he got to it and refunded me.

I knew exactly what I was getting into but being told something that simply isn't true is not acceptable. I'm all for being patient but I would just like some information on when the tune will happen.

I'll hang tight and will see what happens when he gets back. I know the guy is busy but the problem with my transaction is that I was told that the 2018 was the same ECU as the 17. It's not. Then was told twice that the tune would be done and it wasn't. I told him that I didn't want to be the first person to try the tune and have potential issues but he said it was a simple rewrite and the mechanics are still the same. At this point I'm now a little leery about being the first guy to install the tune on my $45k new truck based on my previous experience. TW members here state to stay patient and the tune will come and tunes take a while to develop. I would have never bought the tune if I knew it wasn't going to work on a 18 and that because the ECU is different I'm going to be the first person to try it. I would have waited until the tune for the 2018 had been tested on a 2018 and could see proven results. Now I feel like a lab mouse waiting for his injection of a clinical trial drug to see if it works.

I understand your frustration. I guess if you don't want to be the lab rat, then don't. Nobody is saying you have to, and there will be others who will jump on board and test it.

You'll just have to wait until that happens, which I know is super shitty since you already paid (and M/Ts are the rare birds so the wait may be longer).

TL;DR: Two choices, get a refund and forget about the tune or hang tough and wait until the '18 version is proven.

    Honestly... stop whining about it.
We've all waited for the tunes, Mat won't release it to you until he's confident it's going to work for you and not cause problems. He's travelling, which he must have had booked, and delays in getting your tune ready means it'll take slightly longer.

Mat probably didn't even know the ECU was different until you sent in your file, and until he has that file he can't make a tune for it!

When you started talking about getting Paypal involved ON A PUBLIC FORUM when you had not even asked Matt directly for a refund, that was not cool.

Matt IS too busy (his own fault) and because of that the time-lines on delivery and timeliness of replies is not great. If, as you say, you "knew exactly what you were getting into" then you should have known that. There are literally 600+ pages of information making that clear in the 3 OVtune threads. I have seen nothing on any of these pages (and yes, I've read them all) that indicates Matt has been in any way dishonest....overly optimistic in his estimations sometimes? Yea, he's guilty of that, but that is not the same as dishonest. He was overly optimistic on his guesstimation that the 17 tune would work on the 18. He probably should have known better than that based on Toyota's screwey software development on this platform, but on the other hand I'm sure he was confident he could make it work as intended if need be (which is I assume what he's doing now).

Having said all that let me throw an olive branch your way and give you some sincerely honest advice: Dig deep and find a little patience. The tune turns this truck from a herky jerky mess to one that actually responds to your right foot the way you expect it too. It still doesn't (at least as of 1.02c 87 for me) fix the highway 4/5/6/4/5/6 dance on the highway (more power from 91 may help that, I haven't run 91 yet) but for simple around town driving this tune has been a godsend for me. Early reports on 1.03 sound like it's that much better. Were it not for this tune I would be out another $10-15K (what it would have cost me to trade-in on a Tundra) right now. I still believe I will have to re-gear to 4.88s to make it the way I want it (I'm planning on a camping rig and towing a small trailer), but the re-gear alone would not have fixed all the timing and FI issues these trucks have. I will not tell you the tune will fix everything you don't like about the power-train (that is too subjective) but I will tell you that if your truck drives remotely like mine did, the tune will improve it IMMENSELY. Easily worth $800. I look at people putting thousands of $ worth of lifts and big tires on these trucks, which exacerbates the drive-train issues significantly and I simply can't understand how they can drive those trucks like that with the stock tune. Assuming I keep the Tacoma, I'm looking to spend $2K on a regear and another $3K or so on suspension/tires to improve it's GVWR for the camping stuff, in that order. If for some reason I HAD to keep this truck and could only buy one modification for it, it would be the OVtune without hesitation.

Well that was quite the read. I actually contacted him about a refund before I suggested I would go to PayPal and it fell of deaf ears.

All I what from the guy is a honest answer or even an answer. If he told me right from the start that the ECU is different and this may take a couple of months, great, I would wait. Not an issue. You should not promise something that you cant deliver on. When emails get ignored customers are going to be pissed. It's obvious he needs to hire staff to allow his business to grow. I still have confidence he will get the tune done.

I guess that was my point...there are 600+ pages of info that shows you don't get e-mails back that quickly from Matt, especially when he's travelling. But I agree, he needs some admin support staff at this point cause his business seems to be blowing up....I'm glad you are going to stick it out, he will get it done and the smart money says you will be happy with it...
