Better paint in my opinion and peace of mind knowing it will stick better using both vs just the fusion and it not sticking well to the plastic...and I had this primer already so no need for me to go buy a new one..not gonna make a difference in the way it looks anyways. Just enjoy the pics! haha and thanks, good luck on yours and I recommend the 300 degrees for 10 min method. Opened up the second light much faster with that temp.

I have a question about the baking process. Do you heat up the oven to correct temp, turn it off, then put the light in?

Or are you supposed to keep the oven on while the headlight is in there? I would be scared of the heating elements turning on and causing uneven heat melting something. I think I've only seen one person mess them up, so it can't be that hard... right?

Turn the oven on. Heat up to desired temp. Leave oven on and bake for xxx minutes. Place them on a piece of wood. I use 4 2x4's cut to length

Anyone have any photos of a BHLM on an MGM? Thinking of giving this a go, but would like to see an example first.

Thanks to this thread I found the courage to knock this out. Just finished, took me almost two days but I could have done it a little faster.

The black mirror blinkers made by @mesojdm also inspired this, once those were black my chrome headlights really stood out.

Pulling lenses off after being in the oven at 300 for 10 min was no problem for me. Taping off the chrome ring around the projector for the real Pro look was tougher than that even.

That permaseal though was a bitch. They really used a lot on my lights, it was overflowing the channel, not sure if everyone’s was that much. I tried using a razor and flathead to get that out but I would press too hard and slice the channel. I had better luck with my Dremel getting 90% out, then going back with the flathead and getting the rest. The permaseal and the plastic really blend together, but something I found to make it easier getting that last little bit is wetting the housing. The permaseal will show up black and the housing dark gray. There is definitely no permaseal left in my housing, but there are a few slices through the channel that I hope the new retro-rubber will be able to keep the water out of, they are on the outside lip.

Anyway didn’t get any pics working on it, but here are some completed pics:

    168DDFD7-EE29-4E44-AC6C-A02BFCBFB3C8.jpg 140A608A-E3F8-4634-97B9-C1F8318E0B18.jpg AFA3B5F5-FAD6-4547-9D23-D6DEF34D549E.jpg 5A34F9B0-5F85-42C9-9DCA-58538ABA1E40.jpg

Really glad to be done, I know wife is probably even happier than me that I am done. Hopefully I won’t have any fogging. I bought black silicone to put a bead around the outside to help but decided not to use it yet, I may want to do a projector swap at some point and not sure how that silicone will do in the oven if I open these back up.

I used Krylon Fusion satin black. Can says it cures in 7 days. I’m assuming it is probably a good idea to attempt to not use my headlights until then, will the heat do anything to the paint before it is cured?

Does anyone know what the size of the bolt is that screws the headlight housing into the fender area?

The actual bolt size as in length and thread pitch or the socket size needed to take it off?

Are you only missing one??? If so pull the one on the other headlight and go match it up.
    Or @gunny1005 might know
