I'm glad you are not a snow sports coach or you have no experience teaching or coaching snow sports. Getting down a hill = gravity, getting down hill well and in control is skill.

No one's complained yet, I grew up with a bunch of boarders so I just found it silly that someone thought the skills didn't translate, thats nonsense.

Put a seasoned skateboarder on a snowboard and they already feel comfortable, they just need to learn edging, transitions, and fight the intuitive feeling to lean back.

Put someone thats never boarded anything before on a snowboard and holy shit there's a lot to learn.

If you're a ski instructor yourself I'm happy to email the video of my very first day skiing, I used the same formula: 1 run on the bunny slope then straight to the top of a blue diamond, I bet you'd say I picked it up just fine :)

Edit: put a seasoned WAKEboarder on a snowboard for the first time and I'll have them doing black diamonds on the first day no problem. Wakeboarding and snowboarding are probably the two closest related boardsports and of course knowing one helps you pick up the other faster.

My whole life I’ve said the skills translate. I believe I mentioned that in my post. I just said it wasn’t as easy as I thought... as mentioned in the post. Bro. Your comprehension STILL sucks. But you did happen to mention the comfortability... yup. Check.

I'm not even responding to you anymore lol. this guy insinuates there's no way a rookie can get down the mountain "controlled" and they must just be fumbling down because "gravity", therefore stick to the bunny slopes

    You honestly agree with that?

Just because YOU (in this case the guy I was actually responding to) spent all day on the bunny slopes doesn't mean others won't pick it up MUCH faster. Maybe he's just a shitty teacher

4WD helps ON SNOW! Not as much ON ICE! it will give you more traction when there is something for the tires to grip, BUT, when you are on a skating rink, it doesn't mean squat once you have broken traction. When I was driving a semi, during the first snowstorm of EVERY YEAR, the majority of the vehicles in the ditches were 4X4s, or 4WD pickups, since people thought 4 wheel drive helps on slick roads. Snowy, yes. Icy, NO.

Actually, if you knew how to teach or coach any sport I would not have to explain, but I guess I do :der: - whats the deal with you socal folks :crapstorm:? Anyhoo it is called progressions - EVERY single athlete starts with the basics EVERY single season, look at any world cupper in skiing, boarding, or shoot any sport - you name it. You master the technique on easier terrain every year and then you drill on easier terrain. Once you mastered it or feel comfortable, then you go to more difficult terrain. Once you have the drill or progression down, you bring it into a course or a game. Now on race day or game day, the techniques are habits = automatic and you kick-ass. Of course you are a expert so you just romp down the biggest bad-ass hill and I do not have tell you shit cause you won't listen anyway. NFL's never practice right?

Make it easier for you - off-roading. Lets take a stock toyota with a newb driver. Oh hey, they can get down a dirt logging rd. Lets bring them right to a difficult trail - make it or break.... Not how it works in real life if some guy has a brain between the ears or if you like your truck or equipment.

yes and some people can progress much faster than others! What a concept!

I progressed fine learning to ski doing 1 run on a bunny slope, 2nd run on a blue diamond, 3rd run on a black diamond and by the end of the 2nd day I was going off trail just fine. This doesn't make me some amazing "I'm better than you" superhuman it just means I've spent years doing yoga and slacklining which gives me a huge edge in flexibility and balance in ANY sport.

Guess whats super popular with outdoorsy people in socal right now?? Slacklines and yoga lol, so I'm not the only one.

But seriously give it a shot, if you buy a slackline and practice on it daily for a few weeks I GUARANTEE you'll be a better skier than you already are.

And going down a single black on your first day is not at all comparable to letting a rookie take a $30k truck down a tough trail come on now...

    Wrong.

4wd is better than 2wd on ice. It doesn't mean that it's like being on dry pavement, but it is better. You have more control when giving gas or cruising at speed.

Just because 4wd is better, it doesn't mean the roads ain't slick.

I think the time for talk is over. This thread needs a snowboard competition, followed by a driving on ice skills challenge. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.
