Was thinking about that as I put mine together. I don’t have a tile, so what all is inside?

I haven't torn mine apart.. but at 1:56 there's a good image of what it looks like
Edit: actually the preview thumbnail shows the components pretty well

Right now I have my tile stuck onto the back of my fob with some 3M tape and it just feels clunky.

I'd be willing to bet @AJT DESIGN can custom make one to accommodate the guts from a Tile device. I would only need to be a little bigger. Perhaps too the FOB and Tile can use the same battery?

I read somewhere that if you press the lock button 3 times it activates the remote start. Might only be certain types of remote start makes though.

Yea I am positive I read it on this forum somewhere. Either the lock button or the unlock button. Try them both. But I really think there is an interface or something that comes with certain remote start kits. It would likely say it in your manual or instructions, or as part of the features list.

Now I can tell you this, I also kinda remember the conversation going along the lines of "is the distance using the OEM Fob the same as the Remote Start Fob" so there might be that. However, at your house I can't see that being an issue. At the mall or a restaurant, maybe.

I have been contemplating a phone based alarm/remote start system for the truck. I want something that will notify me from just about anywhere and that I can control from anywhere.

I would be interested in that as well. An app on your phone that would allow you to unlock, lock start, roll down windows.... That would be nice. I thought Chevy had something like that at one point. Do they still? I don't hear it advertised.

I will be trying the remote start with my OE key fob tonight as I leave work. I will update this tomorrow when I come back into work.

Cool, really curious to see (and hope) if it works.

They definitely exist as aftermarket kits. My 2016 lexus has all that and then some but at a hefty yearly fee. I want something without a yearly fee if possible.

Funny, I has a 1993 Subaru Loyale and put a Code alarm in it. One feature allowed me to roll the window down and up. Had a 2010 Acura TSX and those windows and sunroof would open and close. Had a Honda Crosstour and they would only go down. Toyota needs to get with the program and make it so all their vehicls have the same tech.

2012 Tundra, 2014 4Runner, 2017 Tacoma, all different. My Sport with the Tech Package doesn't even have a Homelink mirror! WTH! I will ultimately remedy that too.

Yea, both the Tundra and 4R and it was a Trail that I had came with power seats. Although, those I can life without. I hate not having a homelink mirror though. We enter the house through the garage so I have that crappy clicker up on the sun visor. So 1980s. I have seen some cool mods though to convert them into a button with them wired to the truck, and some still using the batt. I think I can remedy the homelink for under a hundred bucks though. Seats, fugetaboutdit! Even the Corolla comes (and has been) with more bells and whistles. Dumb if you ask me. Lame to say the least.

So I tried this last night but to no avail. I tried both unlock and lock buttons. Nothing.

Sorry I got your hopes up. I just briefly looked on the line and it appears that feature is system specific. Maybe you could contact the retailer or manuf and see if there is a add on module. You could also a s k about an upgrade for cellular access.

When I do mine I'm going all in. Cellular access and alarm features.

Compustar for instance has plans starting at 6 bucks a month. I pay way more than that for my Lexus Entune Remote system a year.

But I can start the car/turn it off, lock, unlock, roll down windows, check the oil condition, arm/disarm the alarm, etc, from anywhere the car and I have cellular service. I can even check it from Mexico or Canada if I'm there on vaca. If I pay for a month worth of global coverage (Verizon) I can do it from anywhere in the world.

Do you need all that is what you should ask yourself. One fob is cool, no fob, since we all have phones is even better. I park the truck in a public garage in Baltimore city while I'm at work. I'd like to think it's safe but I'm too paranoid.

I hate giant cluttered key rings. I have the fob, the tailgate key, and the receiver lock key, and a decorative key ring/bottle opener.

    20180120_171323.jpg

It sucks to need all this with keyless entry but I try to keep it to a minimum. The bottle opener is like a survival tool so, acceptable clutter.

Maybe two fobs ain't so bad and after a while you won't even notice.

Minor for now... OEM Bed Mat Extang Solid Fold 2.0
Bit the bullet and ordered one. Couldn't be happier! It's a small upgrade, but way more suiting to the truck than the pebble OEM style. Many thanks OP!
